Nuvelt

Nuvelt is an Earth-like planet in the Solace system. It is slightly less massive than Old Earth and has less varied seasons and more stable climates. Its rotational period is 24 hours like that of Old Earth's, with a shorter year of 330 days. It has a single moon called Numond which orbits around the planet every 30 days. The planet has a slightly denser atmosphere than Old Earth's which is permeated by an exotic matter commonly known as "Aether". This substance interacts with the electrical impulses of the nervous system in natural humans causing excruciating pain and burns. It was through the use of a genetic treatment known as "Genetische Veränderung Typ 1" (abbreviated as GVT1, pronounced as "Gift 1") that allowed humans to settle on Nuvelt, and eventually develop psionic capabilities.

Post Migration Era Calendar

The exact date when the Terran Federation left Old Earth has been lost to history. Due to relativity, the timekeeping systems onboard the interstellar ships are unreliable. Thus it is unknown how much time it has taken to arrive on Nuvelt. The year 0 of the post migration era calendar (P.M.) was set to begin after humanity settled on the surface. The indeterminate time between departure from Old Earth and arrival on Nuvelt became known as the "Lost Period".   Nuvelt has an orbital period of around 330 days, and a moon that orbits every 30 days or so.

Aether Manipulation: Psionics

By controlling the electrical impulses in their nervous system, each individual human could manipulate the aether to form projections from their minds. These mental projections could be holographic images or temporary objects/phenomena made of hardlight. The ability to project onto the aether became known as "Psionics". With each subsequent generation of GVT treatments, the psionic potential of humanity grew stronger. However, as having such developed nervous systems required immense amounts of energy to maintain. By the time the seventh generation GVT7 was developed and released future plans to increase the psionic potential of humanity were abandoned by the Terran Federation. It was considered to be too risky and unethical to develop a genetic treatment that gave psionic abilities that consumed energy that far exceeded an individual's caloric intake. Thus GVT7 was widely considered to give the maximum psionic potential to any human individual.

Splintered Humanities

After GVT7 was developed, each government took the genetic treatment research and repurposed it for their own agendae.

• Supernations such as Celesta and Nocturne created strains which made their citizens subservient. They were named GVT8 and GVT9 respectively. With their free-will restricted and having xenophobia and nationalism written into their genetic code, generations of Celesteans and Noctureans waged a war that lasted centuries. Driven by an instinct to be the one true human race on Nuvelt.
• Lupus Corporation created the K91 genetic treatment which gave rise to their race of "Wolfshifters" which gave them canine-like traits and allowed them to psionically shift their bodies to be stronger and more agile when needed. Given their extreme capitalist society, the lower working classes would rarely shift back into their more humanoid forms and many lose the psionic-shifting ability altogether. These individuals would often appear as large werewolf like creatures. Higher and more prestigious classes often remain more humanoid with wolf ears and tails.
• Dr. Rick Wagner and Dr. Simon Clarke broke through the maximum theoretical psionic potential in their GVT11 treatment. Their treatment reduced the muscle mass of an individual and developed the nervous system further than any other scientist would dare. This gave rise to the race known as Newmans. Their ability to actualise their psionic projections is much faster and has higher fidelity than any other race. Their most distinct feature are pointed ears which lead to them being colloquially known as "Elves"; the mythological race found in Old Earth fiction.

Terran Homeworld

Before humanity arrived in the Solace system, they were habitants of a planet known as Old Earth. It was vastly inhospitable during the 24th century Anno Domini as climate change and widespread pollution had disrupted the planet's ability to support life. Disease and famine run rampant and many armed conflicts were fought over scraps. For centuries ever since the industrial revolution, the tackling of global issues was trapped in a bureaucratic nightmare. Efforts to terraform and migrate to Mars had failed as corruption in the United Nations led to the funds being embezzled by political influencers. A conglomerate of states splintered from the United Nations to form the Terran Federation. Their goal was to save what little they could before humanity faced extinction. They hastily built interstellar ships with the limited resources they had compiled. On the day of departure, these ships depleted Old Earth's geothermal energy to power their warp drives, the planet was destroyed in the process. Countless lives were sacrificed for the select privileged few.
