Spear of Bjeria

A plain, bronze asceemuna (a type of lance used for hunting urus), the Spear of Bjeria is part of the Bjerian imperial regalia, representing the monarch's pact with the god, and is considered more important than the crown itself.

Use

The Spear is carried by the reigning monarch when performing royal duties, although a replica is now used when performing sacrifices. However, in $FIFTH_AGE_DATE, Emperor Ceafor Bregwulf used the Spear to defend himself and his young daughter against an assassination attempt during the opening of a new temple, slaying the assailant where she stood.
The monarch brings the spear on state visits, representing Bjeria's immediate readiness to enter combat. Its blade is covered during visits to neutral states, indicating preparedness but not making a direct theat. The spear is covered and carried by the heir apparent when visiting allied states, leaving the monarch's hands empty and indicating present amicability.

Legend

Dating back to the foundation of the country, the legend of the spear holds that it belonged to the first Bjerian king, Dolnoù the Conquerer, and was wielded by him during his exile from $PRECURSOR_EMPIRE into Acostail.
Dolnoù led his band of knights through the unforgiving wilderness, seeking the attention of a powerful god by hunting urus bulls. They passed through the unreal places of Acostail and found themselves in the realm of the gods, where they encountered a nameless god in the form of an urus. Dolnoù offered his devotion in exchange for the god's service, but the god attacked. Dolnoù and his company fought the god and, eventually, Dolnoù's company wounded Xir mortally and their pact was sealed by the god's heart blood staining Dolnoù's spear. The god revealed Xir name to Dolnoù and, with that, the two forged an alliance. When Dolnoù's company returned from their exile, they came as conquerers, an unstoppable tide that carved a swathe through the $PRECURSOR_EMPIRE's frontier and dedicating their victories to the bull god Bjeria.
Dolnoù established a kingdom in the name of the god, and devoted the rest of his life to expanding it into an empire. In return for his devotion and to show Xir favour, the god gave Dolnoù six mage children - half mortal, half divine. Eventually, Dolnoù passed the spear to his natural-born son and successor, Tiezh the Stronghold, who forced the $LATE_PRECURSOR_EMPEROR to sue for peace.
