The Readiness Proclamation of 58040

The most famous writings in all of Loderr is collection of letters sent by the King of Altrua to his son. Entitled the letters of King Monsalo of Altrua, this book contains the history and laws of the formation of the Great Nation. Whilst King Monsalo built the capital city of Edasirap on the east coast, his son Prince David oversaw the construction of the Great Wall of Altrua. The King and his son sent daily correspondence to each other, sometimes with an attached Royal Proclamation. One of these proclamations was included with a letter and became a law throughout the Realm. After a long and bloody war with the forces of evil, caution was required to banish the enemy out of the realm until the wall was built and keep them on the outside afterward. Forays by orcs, goblins, and kobolds were usually successful as the villagers and farmers were not trained with sword nor lance. Even if they lived, the commoners would often die from festering wounds they were ill equipped to treat. With this in mind, Monsalo sent out the edict now known as the Readiness Proclamation:
As we are now faced with marauding bands of orcs and such, We are dismayed at the inability of the commoner to protect himself or his community. This cannot be allowed to continue, therefore: I, King Rafael Monsalo, do hereby decree that the subjects of the Great Kingdom of Altrua shall be perpetually outfitted and trained to provide for the common defense. In addition, Brother Hester shall found a new order of monks to provide for the physical welfare of the communities of Altrua. They will distribute medicines and the knowledge of how to use them. This edict is to be held in perpetuity, that Altrua be always held in readiness to secure this Great Nation for our posterity.
