The Sewers of Navara
Kairoz, Nair and Ixil are at the "Fat Salmon", attempting to impress some young ladies.
Nair began telling a story: "None but the sewer dwellers and few others have any intrest in the vast sewage system beneath Navara. As such, not many know of the horrible secret that lurks in the rancid depths. The great colorful city has its foundations in hell itself: below the third level of sewers, there lies a seemingly ordinary iron grate that never rusts; it is impossible to open unless it opens on its own, and when it does, a dreadful demon may emerge to feast on any poor soul that went there, leaving nothing behind.".
Ixil interrupted: "Forgive me ladies, it seems my friend had too much to drink. Everyone knows that the sewer systems descend forever downwards. But you can't go back up once you go below the third floor. Then, if you go to sleep in the floor that is the age you will die, you will wake up into your perfect life, and die at peace."
And finally, Kairoz weighed it: "Nonesense. It is a trial for the pure of heart and strong of will. Those who pass it are redeemed from all sin, and ascend to angelhood. Pastor Serelon told us this in his last sermon. Besides, i'm sure the ladies don't really care, right ladies?".
As the night went on, the ladies followed the trio to their rooms, where they consequently robbed them.
Summary
No one has ever descended below the third level of the sewers in Navara and came back.
Spread
The myth isn't spread amongst ordinary folk. However, criminals, outcasts, the diseased and other sewer dwellers can tell, if pressed, that while some do return, they always say it's just a regular system of ordinary sewers. Almost all varients of the myth are widespread among those who know of it.
Variations & Mutation
There dozens of variations, all having only one thing in common: no one ever returns.
