Ivanka Tower

Constructed in the 11th century, the Ivanka tower was originally constructed to serve as a lighthouse. When it was built it was the tallest structure ever made, standing 524 feet tall and containing 35 stories. The current owner of this title is claimed by Crown Bluff Tower towering over Ivanka tower with a height of more than 1000 feet. It stands atop Eptou Cliff facing south, overlooking Kolnok Bay. While the lighthouse helped trade ships, it was frequently used by pirates stashing riches in the famed Vàhron River subterranean delta.   Currently, the building has been expanded upon greatly, with numerous extensions added haphazardly to the tower. The lamp no longer functions but is kept intact. The usage of the structure can be summarized as follows. The first floor is used as a lobby. The next 10 floors house sleeping quarters for important guests. The 12th and 13th floors are used as a storage area, and the 14th floor is the servant's quarters. On the 15th floor is a meeting room, where any important meetings of the Kolnok Pact take place. Then up until the second floor(the lantern floor) is kept empty except for stairs. The lantern floor is used as a leisure area for city leaders, with a breathtaking view of the sea and the city on a balcony circling the spire.

Etymology

Ivanka Tower got its name from Ivanka Chlebov, an instrumental member of the Kolnok Pact. Before that, it was known as the Kolnok Lighthouse.

Purpose / Function

The Ivanka Tower serves as the headquarters of the Kolnok Pact, which was signed in Kolnok. At the time of the forging of the pact, the Kolnok Lighthouse had recently stopped being operated and was scheduled for demolition. The Kolnok Pact bought the lighthouse for a very cheap price and went about refurbishing it to serve as its headquarters. It is used for passing alliance laws, wartime strategies(mainly for use in Hanghao's war with Yuetou and the Kesnos Civil War that is breaking out around Witmelo), membership drives, and trade deals.

Alterations

Many extensions have been added to the original lighthouse. The largest is a tall, flat extension that has essentially been nailed to the side of the lighthouse. Dumbwaiters, closets, and other slender rooms are put in this extension. On the ground floor, there has also been a lot of extensions to make a larger lobby.

Architecture

The lighthouse, barring any of the extensions, is a cone shape that gets slightly narrower as you climb higher. A balcony encircles near the top of the tower. It is 524 feet tall, has a diameter of 118 feet. The structure is made of stone excavated from nearby cliffs.

History

Construction

998-1059
The village of Kolnok, growing rapidly along the shores of the Vàhron Delta, was starting to become a bustling seaport. There was an overwhelming amount of ships crashing in the rough waters of the Southern Sea though. So the government drew up the plans for a monstrous lighthouse to be built on the rocky cliffs of Eptou. Unfortunately, this was way outside the small town's budget. The construction began in 998, but by 1004, the frenzied, ever-growing population overthrew the current government and murdered the lord, Artur Šmíd. The construction of the lighthouse ground to a halt, and for decades the bottom quarter of it remained on the clifftop, waiting to be finished. Then, in 1042, the little village of Kolnok had become the bustling sea hub Kolnok. They had built a couple of smaller lighthouses, but after citizens demanded that the government finish the lighthouse, construction recommenced. It was finished in Bloommonth, 1059.

Lighthouse Years

1059-1330 For centuries the lighthouse was the pride of Kolnok. Lost sailors would see the light and count their blessings because that light means the only safe place to land for miles around. Anywhere else along the rocky cliffs, you could end up at a fatal dead end in one of the subterranean rivers. In Kolnok, the safe rivers were marked with smaller lighthouse, and there were lights inside as well that would help guide vessels into the port. But eventually, these small lighthouses overtook the big one, and the townsfolk realized that Kolnok Lighthouse was not useful at all and was expensive to operate. In 1330 they shut her down for good.

Kolnok Pact

1351-1678 The kolnok pact was an alliance between six cities. Eight more cities would join later, but Kolnok was by far the largest city of the founding six. They agreed their headquarters would be in Kolnok. They were looking for stable ground when Eyaz Burbest, the ruler of Ammaraq, spotted the decommissioned lighthouse. The lord of Kolnok told him the story, and he asked why they didn't just set up their headquarters in the large building already constructed. A month later, their headquarters were set up. Over the years they made many expansions to the lighthouse.

Tourism

As one of the tallest buildings in the world, many tourists flock here to gaze in awe at its stature. Tourism took a sharp decline in 1542 when Crown Bluff Tower had finished construction, but many people who are in Kolnok for the beautiful rivers take a look at the headquarters. It is listed in the top ten places to visit while in Kolnok, and parts of the tower are accessible to the public, with a tavern and small motel even being built into the bottom level.
Ivanka Tower. Beautiful, but when you're called from your room on the second floor for a meeting on the fifteenth floor, you wonder about the sanity of the floor planner. -Mamta Dalavi, Mayor of New Jitghadi
