Nu-Earth and the Asomatous Plane

Nu-Earth is not dissimilar to what our own world can become in given a thousand or so years. Much of the world is given to multilayered cities with streets forming between the towering skyscrapers like cobwebs. Nearly all of these are small and cramped save for the penthouse districts at the top. What part of the world is not given to cities are mostly the polluted oceans turned grey from the trash thrown in. Homeless and what few animals remain live on islands made from landfills. Still there do exist some forests, a couple animal reservations near the equator but mostly trees are only found in "lumber factories" or occasionally the indoor farms.
Still, despite the rampant classicism this is not a world without hope. Many residents are highly religious and the few that aren't are coming around as science and Religion seem to be proving each other more and more everyday, ever since the discovery of the Asomatous Plane, a place that many residents of Nu-Earth consider to be the actual heaven discovered.
They're wrong.
Nothing with form exists in the Asomatous plane. The residents are indeed beings of pure spirit, similar but not identical to human souls. But their world is not a paradise. It is fraying, coming apart at the seams like a cloud dispersing after a harsh wind. Soon it will be no more and it's residents are fleeing, fleeing to earth.

Geography

Most of the natural earth has been flattened in most urban areas back when land vehicles were still all the rage. Though a few mountain ranges have been left in tact, originally because they were too much effort to take down but later because they made for effective platforms to hang the different tiers of the cities from. Cliff sides have undergone similar treatment though extra caution is taken there to ensure that residents don't fall to their deaths in the toxic waters below.
Geography is not a concept that maps well onto The Asomatous plane. It is less of a land than it is a swirling storm cloud. mountains and valleys do rise out of the weightless energy forms, yes, but they are gone in mere minutes making any kind of long term settlement impossible.

Fauna & Flora

Aside from humans, little lives in Nu-Earth (that they know of). Many of the animals could not survive in the world such as the great dog days in which the steroids used to clean the meatmonsters proved fatal when put into puppy chow and caused a sickness now spread across the globe. Other animals proved impossible to get rid of such as cockroaches who still infest all but the upper tier buildings to this day.
The Asomatous plane produces the asomats and only the asomats, any other less intelligent species are considered to only be younger asomats that would hopefully live to adulthood. Few do.

Natural Resources

Water is collected from the oceans and processed at water treatment plants, which then dumps the biproduct back into the oceans ensuring need for them in the future. Most food is is similarly acquired at indoor farms or tree factories.

The state of Asomatous is hard to explain for those from there for before they started taking over human bodies asomats technically did not need resources to sustain themselves. Rather it's that the unstable nature of the environment itself is destroying the population.
