The Animea Penjacus

The Animea Penjacus, translated as The Soul Needle in the common tongue, is a writing instrument created by the Angkasian matriarchy. When a person has risen to join the ranks of the elite Angkasian Vertojas forces or a new clan matriarch-in-training leaves for her pilgrimage, the Animea Penjacus is used to forge shards of the wearers soul into the Vertojas armor in a painful runic carving and binding process. This process, which permanently transfers those pieces of the soul into the metal, allows for the binding of the armor to the wearer, which in turns gives the armor its transformation properties and allows the wearer to control it by will.
The Soul Needle itself is cylindrical and about 8 inches in length and made from the same lightweight, color-changing metal as the Vertojas armor itself. It has a fine tip for precisely carving the runes into the metal and is heated to extremely high temperatures once the users soul makes contact with the metal through the tip. It has a button on the opposite end of the tip that when pressed will release blades on the grip in order to release blood into the interior of the needle where the blood is filtered out leaving only the physical manifestation of the soul.
Normally the process of consuming ones soul to conduct magic, as is the norm on Novus Dunia, is relatively pain free unless high magic is being used, though it does cause a shock to the system for even the tiniest of flames and is rarely actually used in these times due to its exorbitant cost. However, the Animea Penjacus tears the soul from the person, not consuming or destroying it as normal magic use would, and inserts part of it into the armor which causes extreme pain and a temporary loss of consciousness upon its completion. Its use is only recommended for those who have shown great skill and have gone through the training and hardening rituals given by the Head Matriarch of the Circle of Nine, whether they are joining the Vertojas forces or a young matriarch leaving to gain experience and wisdom in the outside world.
