Carric Royal Family
Turn Your Face Above
The Carric Royal Family have had long standing in DMNeeds.
Structure
The head of the family is always the current king or queen of DMNeeds. It is not unusual to find common gamblers or beggars bearing the Carric name as the royal family has always adopted anyone they found to be indispensably useful.
All members are put into a family tree and it is kept up to date by The Greedosich Family.
Choosing a Ruler
DMNeeds has a Tanistry system for choosing the crown heir. All members are entitled to enter the pool of potential heirs to the throne, but must be approved by the Greedosich's current head. Usually, this consists of tests in language, diplomacy, mathematics and law. Those not in the pool of potential heirs are able to vote on any in the pool. They may change their vote at any time prior to the death of the current ruler. For this reason, even the lowest members of the Carric family hold some esteem within the city of DMNeeds.Relation to The Greedosich Family
The Greedosich family is a branch of the Carric family, but have always served in positions of archivists and librarians. They are regarded highly by the royal family, but tend to be few in number and unlikely to disclose exactly how many of them there are at any given time.Public Agenda
The Carric Family has been one of the few bastions of trade since the fall of the Sabrinian Empire. They maintain the only port within the region. As such, their public agendas consist of the following:
- Eliminate piracy wherever found
- Protect local trade from foreign price gauging through tariffs
- Allow free and open trade and gambling without restriction on product or activity
- Prevent wave technology from being activated within the region
- Prevent slavery in all forms
- Maintain city-state independence to ensure open trade for the region
- Encourage local craftsmen through a lowering of tariffs on raw goods otherwise unobtainable or prohibitively expensive in the region
Familial Agenda
It is a well-known secret the Carrics have never held themselves to any sort of royal purity. They prefer to marry local citizens. Usually servants in the castle or well-regarded merchants they would have had the most contact with. Due to the proliferation of drugs, weapons and other illegal magicks through the city, other nobility tend to regard the Carrics as little more than criminal kingpins pretending to be aristocrats. The Carrics tend to act in positions of economical and legal guidance. They have large functional machinery for tracking goods within the city which is guarded jealously by The Treasurers Guild. Due to a strong propensity to freedom even at sacrifice, their family tree can be a bit hard to follow. They do not demand the role of accountant of each heir and have in fact opted to adopt economists into the family rather than force any member to serve in a role they do not wish to. The highest crimes in the city are slavery, rape and murder in that order due to the Carrics incredibly strong sense of liberty.Assets
