Northlands

This game is a mix of the Skyrim computer game, Viking heroic epic, Tolkien, Game of Thrones, dark age folklore (from a number of countries) and a little bit of more traditional high fantasy. It's a bit of a cobble together but is seems to work.   It is a game of honourable heroes. If, when you die, the Valkyries don't appear and carry you off, then you have not played in the spirit of the game. All Northmen are courageous. Not fearing the battle or facing the fight, despite being afraid, is at the heart of being a Northman. Being a ferocious fighter is one thing but it is just as good as being an intelligent Northman who wins the battle through the use of better tactics. Players not living life like they are in a Norse heroic epic are likely not to have much fun.   Everyone should be capable of standing in the line of battle. This includes mages, clerics and bards. Everyone wants to end up in Valhalla to feast there before Ragnarok begins. The Heroic Sagas are riddled with big battles. I like big picture battles. I can't guarantee that there will be big battles as the players be driving the story. That said, I would expect that there will be various small battles. You won't win every battle.
