Welcome to Newcastle Upon Tees. Hyper Conurbation M3. Otherwise known as HyCob 3.
The most divided of the 3 HyCobs, the division of the haves and have not's is unprecedented. An over stretched and under resourced police force is besieged on both sides by unrest, violence and unprecedented levels of crime.
This is the story of 2 Police Officers, thrust into this world and having to rely on their wits and experience to make it back each day.
The world has changed. Global warming has massively affected the world. Considerable parts of all the worlds’ coastal developments are destroyed or partially flooded by ever rising sea water. World temperatures are consistently higher on average and extremes of weather are more common with each season more extreme.
America and China went to war in 2106 and the rest of the world just stood back and watched. Progressive summits and peace accords throughout the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s lead to a significant reduction on weaponized nuclear material as the increasing scarcity plutonium and the eradication of world oil supplies forced the re purposing of such materials. By the point of war, only a small handful of nations on earth had a standing nuclear arsenal of a few hundred warheads. Even then, these were increasingly old and aging technology. The ability to bring down these weapons mid-flight means that very few ever detonated effectively on their intended target. It was still enough to make the majority of the Sub Asian and North American Plateau completely uninhabitable, effecting the global economy and wreaking having with regional biospheres for thousands of years.
After the Oil and Gas reserves dried up, the Middle East became a chaotic hotbed for revolution and social reform. Similar to the Russian Federation, it became a majorly insular society that only just functions.
South America was the first nation to unify itself as part of an economic, political and military union under a socialist ruling party.
Africa quickly followed seeing the considerable benefits of co-operation and unity the South American alliance made. Initial efforts were futile but eventually two ruling political theories of thought arose, leading to a devastating and still ongoing war between the two nearly created African superpowers formed by an effective melding of the north and south of Africa. A ceasefire exists but constant cross border skirmishes and attacks regular occur across the uneasy border line based just north of the equator.
Europe emerged as the dominant world force of global politics. By staying out of the American-Chinese War, Europe emerged unscathed and by openly supplying both sides, profited exponentially from the conflict and came to dominate all world affairs of politics, economics and military. The European Union gained increasing power until Germany and France combined into the Amicale Zustimmung (Friendly (French) Agreement (German)). Collectively, they began encouraging other nations to join them and those that did not were brutally invaded and forced into capitulation. The European Union arose as the most powerful force in all of Humanity. Except for Britain.
When Britain left the European Union, they were largely left by Europe and the rest of the world to their own devices. The initial efforts of the United Kingdom to remain on the world stage rapidly dwindled and both their standing and influence dwindled. However, the UK became one of the richest nations on earth and their investments into new and exciting emerging technologies made them highly advanced and society quickly adapted to the instant access they had to the latest technologies. Britain became a highly benevolent nation providing an open door for refugees globally and providing economic and military aid for global humanitarian and peacekeeping operations. If you needed to escape, run away, start a new life or simply erase your past and start again…Britain was the destination. With space at a premium and a largely liberal culture, society and government, Britain as a small island, was running out of space. With the major historical city of London now completely underwater, the key population areas were focused on 3 main Hyper Conurbations (HyCobs). Newcastle upon Tees (M3), Midland Birmingham (M1) and Manleefield (M2).
Technology dominates the north east and becomes the leading area for jobs, talent and affiliated industry and many companies begin to headquarter their operations there from big pahrama, to bio tech, fintech and AI/robotics
Becoming like a second London but on a far larger and quicker scale, the city grows expidentially with the influx of refugees from the south, working migrants and an overall boom in population
The city has a population of some 200 million, all crammed into 6000 miles squared
