Division of Superpowered Individuals

I like to think of the Division as the NHS of superpowers. Both are free and universal. What more could you want?

The Division of Superpowered Individuals (DSI) is a nonprofit think tank dedicated to studying superpowers and teaching people about them. It was founded in late 2012 by Suzanna Rizzarri, who had the idea for the organisation after working for the Quadrilorian Genome Project (QGP). The DSI is semi-independent from the Pallorin, so isn't necessarily considered a government department.

Culture

The DSI is primarily a humanoid organisation, meaning it mainly caters its services for humanoids. This is because only humanoids are known to have powers, although a few humans have also begun to show supernatural abilities. This has led to the DSI also giving advice and help to humans on Earth, too. It remains a humanoid organisation, though, placing humanoids front and centre of everything they do. For humans, this culture can seem isolating. However, the DSI makes sure to include everyone in their research so they help everyone.

Public Agenda

The DSI aims to study superpowers and to give adequate advice on how to manage them. They are an official and reliable source of information, constantly updating their website and knowledge banks to reflect any new discoveries.

Assets

The DSI is a research centre, so it has a lot of scientific equipment available for daily use. Since it is partially a Pallorin entity, a lot of its equipment is funded by the Pallorin. However, the DSI also gets their income from donations that help them upgrade their existing scientific equipment. The organisation managed to amass enough money to build their own HQ in Dunce City after their existing base in London was vandalised and partially destroyed.

History

Originally founded under the name of the Quadrilore Genome Project (QGP), the international organisation was created after the success of the Human Genome Project. It was created by the Pallorin and other humanoid scientists to learn more about humanoids. The new organisation aimed to map the humanoid genome and started working towards the end of 2010. During this time, however, they were based in the UK while it was still recovering from the 2008 Financial Crisis (a.k.a, the Global Financial Crisis). They weren't able to get sufficient funds from the UK's Pallorin but managed to earn some from abroad.   In the middle of 2011, they created a survey and learned that people wanted more information about their powers. As the Project was studying the humanoid genome, they fulfilled this request and gained a positive response. However, the QGP had one goal and didn't plan on changing its vision. This led to the Pallorin and a QGP manager, Suzanna Rizzarri, creating a joint department solely focused on studying superpowers in 2012. This allowed them to continue working towards their vision while offering something new to humanoid citizens. While people were originally apprehensive about using a Pallorin-owned service, it was soon revealed that the Pallorin would only oversee the new department's progress, and it wasn't fully part of the QGP nor the Pallorin. However, the Pallorin still owned it; it just couldn't make any decisions over it.   Dr Suzanna Rizzarri first named the department the Galilean Department of Superpowered Individuals to emphasize her point of the think tank belonging to humanoids. However, in late 2015, the department changed its name to the Division of Superpowered Individuals as it became slightly more independent and began to help humans, half-humanoids and Nexans along with Galileans. It then moved its headquarters to Dunce City after robberies kept on taking place. However, this didn't pose many problems as the DSI could still provide online and offline support. They also used their old HQ to create a mini-clinic in London.
