Nhia-Samri Warrior Ethnicity in Niya-Yur | World Anvil

Nhia-Samri Warrior

Nhia-Samri are a warrior culture based on a strong moral ethic of adherence to a code of honor. The code is   1. Never surrender the battle
2. Follow the lead of your superior before all else
3. Respect for yourself in all things leads to great honor
4. Only through true battle may one ascend in rank
5. The value of one person is meaningless to the mission
6. Honor is achieved through protecting those that do not fight
7. Bring your own water
During the Nhia-Samri war this honor code became better known and understood in the Duianna Alliance as the Nhia-Samri would never attack civilians or wounded non-combatants. All civilians were given a choice to swear to the Nhia-Samri way of life and culture or they were allowed to leave with all their possessions as best as they could. Once civilians chose to become part of the Nhia-Samri group they were given all the rights of citizenry with no discernable variation from those who were raised in the Nhia-Samri settlements.   The Nhia-Samri fight on a complex martial arts style that takes years to learn and sometimes a lifetime to master. They fight with two swords which are short single-edged weapons that have a slight curve to them. Their combat techniques are mimicked and applauded by many martial arts students throughout the Duianna Alliance.   In the not distant past, the Nhia-Samri were a martial mercenary organization that was sought for their superior fighting abilities. Only the Daggers are able to counter the Nhia-Samri in battle. The primary difference between the Daggers and Nhia-Samri are that the Nhia-Samri would take almost any mission regardless of the morality of the mission while the Daggers would turn on villainous patrons.   The martial stylings of the Nhia-Samri are dramatic and effective making the Nhia-Samri fighting styles very popular in all levels of society.

History

The legend of the origins of the Nhia-Samri are many across the Duaina Alliance. But, asking any Nhia-Samri warrior about their origins will yield roughly the same story.   Over five hundred years ago the elven warrior and scholar Shar-Lumen was introduced to a unique salmon-robed group of human monks. After the chief monk managed to fight Shar-Lumen to a draw in a sparing test match he sat and listened to their teachings. They were the last remnants of a line of martial art monks from the ancient human home world.   Shar-Lumen was so impressed by their powerful combat techniques and their commitment to balance and harmony that he left the elven lands to join their ranks.   Three decades after he left the elven lands the first Nhia-Samri mercenary band was recorded to be hired with Shar-Lumen as their leader. Though they were hired for near-impossible missions they never failed to accomplish their goals.   Shar-Lumen eventually won the rights to a mountain valley where he had ancient and never seen before or after stone giants build him a massive walled city and fortress for his expanding followers. This fortress's location was a secret that was held for centuries and was only revealed near the end of the Nhia-Samri war with the Duianna Alliance.   Although Shar-Lumen died at the end of the war, he achieved his mission in true Nhia-Samri fashion. He made the Duianna Alliance acknowledge the Nhia-Samri as a new member of the Alliance and established a new nation for the Nhia-Samri growing population.   All of the lands of Southern Yathuria were granted to the new Nhia-Samri nation as sovereign territories under the promise that the Nhia-Samri would dismantle all of their secret bases and fortresses located throughout the known world and move those warriors within the new national boundries. The Nhia-Samri have complied with these agreements and are now a thriving and growing nation unto themselves.

Common Etiquette rules

Nhia-Samri seem to instantly know the class or rank of individuals they are speaking with and will always defer to the highest ranked person.

Common Dress code

Warriors: The Nhia-Samri wear loose-fitting light pants and shirts with leather armor that does not hinder the needed wide range of motion for their fighting style. The leather armor is typically studded or padded.   Civilians: wear similar clothing to the warriors without leather armor or padded clothing. Women wear pants or long robes depending on the needed work and class level in their complex structured society.

Ideals

Gender Ideals

The genders are considered equal in all things. The only proof of capabilities is one's skills in the martial arts. All genders live, work, bed, and practice together at all times.

Relationship Ideals

In the Nhia-Samri nation, relationships are a complex mix of class, rank, and ability. Any gender may initiate a formal joining of individuals into a new family. Such details are overseen by a ruling council of the civilian class.
