Heretic's Sword

Someone who has lived a long life like me has undoubtedly seen their fair share of Elves trying to find the weapon of Mackevor. All of them returned empty handed or did not return at all. It was lost during the final battle with the Selefer and it will remain lost unless we discover where they went.

The Heretic's Sword is the legendary weapon used by the High Elf hero Mackevor. When Mackevor was still alive it was called Indovir's Sword or Glaverion but this name changed when the Archonism branded its precursor, Mackevism, as a heresy. They believed that the sword Mackevor used was no true relic of the God Indovir but rather a spawn of evil through which Mackevor got his power.   Regardless of its supposed origin, all parties do believe it is a relic of great power. It is believed that it could drain the strength of those it was wielded against making the wielder increasingly powerful. According to the myths the sword is so powerful that it could even be used to kill a God.

Myth

Because of the differences between the points of view for Archonism and Mackevism there are actually two versions regarding the origin myth of the weapon.

Mackevism

According to the followers of Mackevor, their hero found the blade after he had to flee deep into the Lower Realms. Like many Elves he was chased away from his ancestral homelands in central Farlis by the Selefer. Within those realms he found a sword empowered by the strength of Indovir. Indovir spoke to him through the sword and asked Mackevor to return to the surface and spread the will of Indovir.   Once Mackevor returned to the surface he used his new found strength to unite the Elves. First they drove the Selefer away from the north east of Farlis where Mackevor founded the city of Bagor. From there the Elves expanded their territories thanks to Mackevor and the power of Glaverion. Mackevor remained undefeated in battle for centuries until his final fight with the Selefer near the current Volker Desert. They Selefer used vile magic to corrupt the area causing all in the region to die, including themselves. Since then the sword, Mackevor and all Selefer have been lost.

Archonism

The version from the Archonism point of view is slightly different. Although the ending is quite the same the believed origin is not. According to them the weapon that was found was indeed of divine making but rather of an evil god who pretended to be Indovir. When Archon received a true vision of Indovir it became clear to him that the Elves had been deceived by this god and the false prophet Mackevor.

Materials and Components

The sword's materials are believed to have not been from this world. They believe it was either forged in the Celestial or Death realms of Nervonia depending on the religion. Its metal are unlike anything seen and were told to be immune to acid, heat and all kinds of magic.

Form

Even though its strenght was its most important property, the Heretic's Sword was quite beautiful. It was very decorated and it is said that its surface always shimmered with a divine light. Different colours of fire could arise from it at will, adding even more beauty to it.

Believed Location

Most who tried to find the weapon have looked near the Visar Volcanoes, the supposed final battlefield between Mackevor and the Selefer. Thus far no one has found it there yet and most expeditions there do not return at all. Some new theories have started to appear that claim that the weapon currently resides in the Elemental Realms where it could have been teleported to during the fight. Trying to find an active portal there has now become the new focus of those trying to find the sword.

And the whispered rumor of it beeing a god slayer.   Especially the different views of the opposing religions makes it quite believable!
