Lailuna (Government)

The government of Lailuna is a small government composed of only a handful of officials.

Structure

The sole head of Lailuna originally was the Lord/Lady/Suzerain of the country, but after a violent revolution disrupted the power structure, a council was introduced to guide the ruler's decisions.
The council is comprised of 7 individuals who act as the speakers of the people and vote on decisions, laws, etc., before they go to the ruler. The decisions/laws/etc. are run by the ruler for a final vote to implement it only if the council's votes are near unanimous. Otherwise, the council will discuss the issue again and revote until a notable majority is decided. The more divisive a decision is, the less likely they will run it by the ruler in order to keep the ruler from having blame for a bad decision. The council now takes the blame so that another revolution against the ruler will be less likely to occur. Each council member is chosen by the populace of Lailuna in elections.
Typically, the successor is a relative of the ruler of Lailuna. The current ruler will personally choose their successor and a ceremony is held to make it official. If the ruler dies before picking a successor, their oldest child is chosen if there is no spouse. The successor is not the official ruler until the previous ruler dies or chooses to pass the position down to their official successor.
The absolute head of Lailuna holds the title of Lord, Lady, or Suzerain, while their children/successors hold the title of Count, Countess, or Countren.
