Buscadoritas
The Brazoso have a complicated history with magic. From tyrant witch-kings to a mad warlock inviting in the Aslihat Qawia, the people have become a little bit skittish. The paranoia is reinforced by La Casa's determined stance against all things magic. Enter the buscadoritas, Little Seekers. A hollow effigy of The Almighty, made from iron and filled with saltwater and sulfur, if brought into the presence of a warlock, they will begin to rattle. Granted, it does nothing to stop whatever the warlock is planning, but hey, a warning is better than nothing, right?
Provided you're getting the general article of course. Hucksters across the islands can pump out knockoffs like nobody's business. It's hard to fake the Hueso Iron but finding out what's inside is a little harder. Leaving out the sulfur is most common, but inland where it's harder to get salt water, you might find one with puddle water or cow piss. Needless to say, these have a less than one hundred percent success rating.
Then again, it's unclear whether they work at all. The Dread, currently Elcadaver's most prominent warlock, claims he's never met a working Buscadorita. But, he will mess with people who wear them, using his gifts to cause the water inside to boil. He claims that the looks of panic are better than prize ship he's taken.
