The Manir Syndicate Organization in Nimenra | World Anvil

The Manir Syndicate

Their reach doesn't extend far from what I have heard, but they are known for their influence and backhand dealings where they have control...
— Everam, Teller of Nimenra
There are a variety of business-owning enterprises that might have some political influence beyond their home provinces or towns in Nekuram.Few do, and fewer guilds beyond transportation and maybe smaller region-wide businesses can withstand the costs and logistics that is demanded of a large company. Criminals have always been able to somehow create wide organisations that can spread across several regions and even all of Nekuram. The Manir Syndicate stands in between all of this.
A guild and organisation set originally around the town of Ferwyn that expanded its way across the Dark Dumberyll region. Their wares mostly focus on the pleasure side of life. Ways to forget the stresses of the world like alcohol, quality food and leisure businesses like "exotic" spas and gambling dens are bartered and operated by the Manirs.

The Manir Business Practices

Originally The Manirs, named after its original "founder", were a guild that supplied alcohol and also dealt with small scale liquid medicinal production. These productions eventually expanded when the market of leisures opened for real with a gain in the economy of the middle classes in the larger towns. With an expanding economy for themselves too, they gained influence over the town of Ferwyn from its nobility since it was already mismanaged with criminality. The Manirs used the extensive knowledge of other guilds that they incorporated from the town and begun to renovate and build a town of its own pleasures. The town soon became famous as a town to "Drown sorrows, take hearts, spend money and live with excitement at the tip of the fingers" and as did The Manir Syndicate gain a reputation for their business dealing with to gain pleasures resources from neighbouring regions. This also expanded into acquiring resources like Tanllyd Crystals for use as a leisure drug.

The Nekurian government look at The Manirs with distrust but has not acted in any harsh way yet. Due to them actually owning a part of a region, they are also responsible for the law and order as the original nobility "sold" their ownership of that region. As Dark Dumberyll's southern parts have become problematic with criminal elements operating through the town of Ferwyn, one large mishap might enable the government to step in and take control of the town again to its fullest.

This is an interesting organization. Especially the fact they actually own part of the region. Makes it difficult to bring them in for any supposed crimes though I’m sure they’re too smart to me caught.

They are smart not to be open in regions they are not fully controlling, which is the rest of Nekuram. I think of them like a "maffia-esqu" model (legitimate display vs crime hidden) that they are really hard to touch until one slip-up. If it comes to a slip-up or hero, who knows? As long as they don't do anything too evil/bad, the governing powers will not act, yet.
