The Fru Feud Military Conflict in Nimenra | World Anvil

The Fru Feud

Some wars are not entirely across countries or enemies within it. Some are just disputes that will become embarrassments for the family for a long time...
— Everam, Teller of Nimenra
The Fru Feud, or The Wife Feud in Lavi, was a small conflict in Orfordhwelm between the family and house of Tourten and the family of Gardenias. The conflict has become the embarrassment of both families due to its start where a man and a woman slept with each other...

The Feud

At a party in 1823, the Tourten son Haraden was a young man in his later 20s when he met a woman in her later 30s, Elvira Gardenias. The young, handsome, strong backed and oddly literate man was struck by Elvira's beauty and began to woo her, unknowingly that this lady was married. The two only met at the party and soon enough they were in bed, at the same party.
Elvira was not only the wife of Chief-Earlan Ermun Gardenias but also the daughter of the Gerdonan of Orfordhwelm Hastant Marren. When they were found out by Elvira's brother-in-law, there was a conflict of glasses and plates thrown and even swords clashing. Haraden got away with his family without any damage except his hair and they all got safely back home.
Having been dishonoured by both letting the offender escape and his wife found upon with another man, Ermun Gardenias gathered his lavy and standing army of 1500 men in a week and marched, with the Gerdonan sending an additional 500 men. Hiding in his father's castle and being chastised, Haraden was at full fault, ashamed and his father furious, angered beyond comprehension. Having an army on the march to take him and probably kill him, he fled again, for he knew that his father was going to hand him over. He arrived at his good friend Erendel Orfenhas who welcomed him in.
Ermund continued on, passing the holdings of Tourten and moving onwards in burning anger to Orfenhas'. However, Orfenhas was a family member to the royal family of Orfordhwelm, meaning that if Ermund attacked, he would not be in any good standing with the Chief-King and neither the Gerdonan. He did not care though and against his advisors and family words of desperation not to attack, he attacked the town of Urmund and its castle.
Erendel Orfenhas was prepared due to his knowledge of Ermund's temper. He had fortified the town in a day in time to withstand the sudden attack with only the standing army of 1000. Erendel and Haraden personally participated in the battle, slighting the Chief-Earlan even more since he was not. This continued in several more skirmished over a week when Herre Tourten finally settled down with his senses and aided Haraden and his friend with an additional 1000 troops. This did not, however, put Ermund down.
A stalemate ensured, the Chief-Earlan was surrounded but did not surrender or give up. Tourten and Orfenhas did not want to waste needles lives. Meanwhile, Orfordwhelm was at war again with Nilaminra and for the Chief-king it did not help that two families were fighting each other outside a trade city.
As the Chief-Earlan did not give up and the siege was rolling over into its fourth week, Orfenhas sent a messenger to ask the Chief-king to intervene. The king was having enough of the small war that took place. The king first chastised and cut the Gerdonan for giving more troops and his support, the second thing he did was openly telling Chief-Earlan Gardenias to attack the town of Urmund or face cowardness. This sparked Gardenias to attack, knowing that he would otherwise be seen as a coward. The army managed to break down one of the gates and get into the town before they were mostly surrounded and traped by forces on each side, Gardenias was captured and the Fru Feud was over with him being sent home, chastised for his emotional explosion.
