Enzymatic overdose
Enzymatic overdose is a condition originated by an overassumption of enzymatic pills used for radiation shielding.
Due to the relative incompatibility between the human organism and the Taurian Radiation Shielding Enzyme TRSE β-e54 DNA Prostatase, humans assuming too much of the compound in too little time can suffer adverse effects.
Depending on the amount of background radiations the user withstands daily, the dosage needed to suffer poisoning changes.
Transmission & Vectors
The most common vector of Enzymatic Overdose is a misjudgement on the patient's part, assuming higher dosage pills than what needed for the day.
The excess Enzyme lingering in the organism won't be absorbed, slowly building up with no way for it to be dismantled; as an alien compound, the human body is not programmed to either produce it by its own nor dismantle any remaining, thus leading to an overdose, if the dosage is not properly adjusted in time.
Symptoms
As a slow buildup (unless the dosage is disproportionally large to the need), the overdose can take months to show any symptomatology, ranging from mild nausea to necrotic patches along the body.
The excess Enzyme can build up inside the cells, which in turn could see it as a damaging external body, triggering the Apoptosis of the cell; in worse cases the cell suffers necrosis, spilling its contents to neighboring ones and creating a cascade effect.
Mild overdoses usually present themselves in the form of nausea and vomit.
Treatment
For mild cases, a few days of underdosage of the pills is all it takes to put the organism in balance again.
Severe overdoses require immediate medical intervention and radiation therapy to force the body to consume the excess as quickly as possible to avoid further spreading of the necrotic tissue.
After the TRSE β-e54 DNA Prostatase has been consumed, surgical removal of the necrotic areas is often needed.
Prognosis
In most cases the ovrdose can be treated with relative ease, resulting in a very low mortality rate.
Sequela
Severe overdoses can lead to future enzyme allergy, having to change the enzyme with a less effective hypoallergenic supplement or the use of protective suits.
Prevention
It is always advised to read the daily weathercast to get the recommended dosage.
Trust your doctor, even if it seems the dosage may be low to you.
History
First registered in the early years of production, when it was wrongly believed that the more you would assume, the better you would be protected, the first wave resulted in many death due to the ailment not being very well studied before then.
