Embroidery House

The embroidery house is usually the most important building in the city, after the main palace of the court officials who preside over the laws and justice. It is a mark of a civilised society, it is a place that is devoted to healing the sick and helping the helpless.   While anyone can pick up a thread and a needle, not every single human is skilled enough in the magical arts to be able to use those skills in order to stitch up someone's open wounds, reattach missing limbs or smooth over the cuts on their souls left by trauma.   Anyone who wishes to pick up the sacred art of emroidery and wants to be able to help people wherever they go, start as a simple embroidery apprentice. Apprentices only work with fabrics and never deal with live customers, be it humans or animals. Their focus is on learning different motives and stitches and as healing goes, they practice all that by making amulets or patches that are suppose to assist with healing and alleviate pain and other common symptoms of many sicknesses or injuries.   The second rank of embroidery workers are the assistants. Those spend at least a decade in service of other licensed embroiderer to learn all the intricate ways thread magic affects the lives of others and can be used to heal the seemingly unhealable.   The building usually consists of several different rooms, all of them dedicated to different aspects of either healing or creating unique magical patterns for amulets and tapestries or other smaller objects and accessories like perfume pouches. There is also the courtyard where different threads are dyed and infused with magic potions to multiply their healing properties, which would not be safe to do indoors. However, most of the other work is done by groups of specialised employees inside. There are the drafting rooms where new patterns and solutions to specific problems and new diseases are created, there are the separate workshops divided into specific types of needlework that needs to be done, usually by scale, then there are the surgeries where only licensed Embroiderers and their Assistants can go to, when they need to treat especially grave injuries and lastly, there are of course rooms for the workers to dine and sleep in as the majority of employees belonging into a specific Embroidery House spend majority of their time there, unless they are married and have their own family in the settlement nearby.
