Haiu Mountains

Haiu Mountains are a mountain range towering above the Western Plains. They are said to be haunted by ancient spirits and it is considered to be a gateway to heaven. If you wish to speak to gods, it's best you try to get their attention right here, although you can never be sure, which god will answer you back.   Some of the mountains are hollow, with little caverns and tunnels intertwined with each other making them into giant, cold, stone labyrinths. It is thought those places were hollowed up by springs and rivers that had been long dried up. Some say you can still hear the water whispering somewhere in there. And if that is not enough to spook you, the wind blowing through these "singing mountains" as they are sometimes also called, is sure to make you get some goosebumps.   The mountain range is named after the Haiu, an ancient race of man and gods intertwined from which the first mythical clan leaders, kings and emperors are thought to have originated. Therefore this is a sacred ground to many nations surrounding the countryside and not many dare to trespass there. Some still use it as a burial ground, even though not many are willing to risk the strenuous journey there. It is mostly done by commoners with very little resources to their name, that cannot afford a proper funeral, who are going there to spread the ashes of their loved ones, hoping that their soul will be light enough to join the gods in the heavens and will help to protect the mountains along with others.   For those reasons it has also been used as a neutral ground for negotiation between warring nations in the past, as no one would really dare to try to break the truce here. It is also rumoured that the fabled that there are many of the Haiu people's tombs left undisturbed deep underground with otherworldly treasures waiting to be discovered.
