The world has been bizarre and exciting for the past twenty-five years, ever since the werebreeds had announced their existence to humans. Shapeshifters are considered second-class citizens, if they're considered citizens at all. Werewolves, werecats, weredogs, and more have become a reality that many humans hate. Likewise, not all of the werebreeds want to live peacefully with humans. Some are bitter and jaded. Others feel humans are inferior. A few simply enjoy the taste of human flesh. These undesirable shapeshifters make things harder for the rest of their kind. Steps towards acceptance are negated by violence and bigotry. Tensions are strained and easily snapped on both sides. It's a dangerous time to be alive.

Remi lived as normal and unexciting a life as she could in this new world. Her life was an utterly human one, sequestered away from shapeshifters. She was content with this boring life. She never strived for anything bigger than her simple dreams.

Kicked out of college, Remi abruptly finds herself on the streets. Her dreams boil down to surviving each day, hiding from those who would hurt her. It's difficult. It's lonesome. It's something she never expected to experience. It's a rude first look at the true ugliness in the world.

Alexander sees her on the streets one day. He feeds her. He talks to her like an old friend. It was easy for her to get used to him. It was easy for her to look forward to his daily visits. A few weeks pass, and he offers her a place to stay. In a world where a werewolf can as easily kidnap you as they can offer a helping hand, Remi has limited choices. She accepts his offer. Her world just gets stranger and stranger from there on out.
