Drefussa Cardionihilis

"Your friends have all suddenly decided to chase each other's tails, and have inflated opinions of themselves? You really should look into a quarantine for the next month or so."
— Dr. Susan Richardson advising a patient.
The disease's name is pseudo-Latin for "Dreyfus' Nihilistic Heart."

Transmission & Vectors

The disease is initially airborne, but the lascivious variant can be spread by physical contact of any kind.

Causes

The exact cause of this disease is still being researched, although it is known that outbreaks tend to occur in social groups.

Symptoms

The patient starts having mightily inflated opinions of themselves, then becomes convinced that they are much more powerful than they really are.
These inflated opinions prompt them to behave in erratic ways, such as breaking windows to enter their own houses, putting their clothes on inside out, and eating dinner for breakfast.
Not only do they start behaving in ways that defy common sense, they start having delusions of jealousy and plot ways to tear down other people's successes.
For those who don't end up with inflated opinions or green-eyed jealousy, patients have the unnerving tendency to be lascivious, even if they weren't prone to behaving like this before.
In the final stages of the disease, patients become convinced that they have turned a disco pink color.

Treatment

If possible, a patient must be isolated from the rest of the community and left to recover on their own.
Some patients with a strong network of uninfected friends can recover with constant normal social contact.
Religiously moderate books and encyclopedias are provided in treatment rooms for the infected patient to look through.

Prognosis

The condition is not fatal by itself, but the erratic behavior patients perform when ill may result in dangerous consequences.
It takes about two months to resolve without treatment, one month if patients are successfully isolated.

Prevention

Avoiding contact with an infected person is the best prevention of this disease.
If contact is inevitable, bolstering one's mind with facts will help keep sanity intact during the incubation period.

Epidemiology

Generally, youths are susceptible to the full range of illness, all the way to the pink aura hallucination stage.
Women seem to be more susceptible to the lascivious strain, while the grandiose strain affects both men and women equally.

History

The first recorded cases of Drefussa coincides with when most of the splendoro decided to act out and abuse their superpowers.

Cultural Reception

As the disease only infects superhumans, ordinary citizens have even more reason to be distrustful of splendoro.
