The Dream

The Dream is a stone statue found near Clock Face in South St Helens. Not many things are universally agreed upon amongst the people of Merseyside, but one that has held true ever since its erection in 2009 is that it is the worst piece of public art in the county.   The Dream was unveiled on May 31st, 2009. The public, who had been told the model would replicate the head of a nine-year-old girl, met the reveal with heavy criticism, the general theme of which surrounded the fact that nine-year-old girls' heads weren't 66 feet tall.   Twenty-five days after the unveiling, on the midnight preceding the 25th June, rumours circulated of the head visibly weeping. Michael Jackson would be slain in combat later that day.   Other forms of hearsay are peddled about The Dream. Some say in moonless nights, it rises out of the ground to reveal a full body that stalks the village of Clock Face, giving children nightmares and making them piss the bed. Others claim The Dream has spoke to them during their slumber, begging them to remove all the Antony Gormley statues on Crosby Beach as they're hogging the attention.   A small religious sect of nomads has formed to worship The Dream. The Tangerines of Toxteth journey around Merseyside bringing blessings and tidings to its struggling people, claiming that The Dream, although shit, will bring prosperity to its neglected land.
