New Earth

This version of the planet Earth has undergone some drastic technological changes and differences compared to our own, but with some distinct advantages.   The darker periods of human history in which important technological and cultural setbacks that caused the human race to advance more slowly were significantly shortened. As early as the 1800s, the world started to progress through scientific and cultural revolutions like none had ever seen.   In the current year analogous to our own, this version of Earth has begun to perfect technologies in the fields of genetics, robotics, and experimental hard light technology.   Some very large names and shadowy organizations are major players in this highly technical world, spending and expanding their resources for a chance to influence the outcome of the future. Religious organizations are smaller, but more fanatical devout followings of the beliefs they are based in.   The main conflict of this world is associated with the darker undertones of the powerful corporations that pull the strings of those with the most powerful technology, and an underlying chaos hints at a world that would be willing to go to war to determine who is truly the most advanced.
