The Dusk Rebellion

The Dusk Rebellion was an attempted coup against the king of Eiennohana by a coalition of kazoku and yakuza clans. These clans were enraged by a series of new taxes the king had enacted, and rose up to force the king to repeal them. Additionally, they claimed that the king was never was better suited as the head of state rather than the head of government. Therefore, while the king had authority to guide Eiennohanan culture, he was ill-suited to lawmaking.
Coalition forces blockaded the capital province, refusing to allow any supplies enter until the king met their demands. When the king not only refused but sent the local militia forces the coalition responded by destroying infrastructure and royal administrative buildings. This behavior triggered condemnation from across the planet, and ultimately the members of the coalition were brought down by their own subjects (for the kazoku) and the underlings (for the yakuza). However, by the time the fighting was over over 7,000 people had died and many more injured. The uprising shocked Eiennohana, pulling together royal, kazoku, and yakuza forces to work together to heal the wounds.
Oyabun Hoshino Akimasa of the yakuza clan Hoshino-gumi was only a boy when the fighting occurred, but the efforts to heal the wounds of that conflict echoed within him for the rest of his life.  He has dedicated his life preventing similar events from ever occurring again, working with a degree of political sophistication uncommon for yakuza.  At times he has even reacted to potential uprisings with force, using the power of the The Hoshino Corporation to break the economic power of instigators to carry through with their plans.
