Development Update: Pre-Alpha 0.0.6
Pre-Alpha0.0.6
November 27, 2021
Important Note
As we were working on this release, a major bug was discovered for settlements of version 4. Landforms and landscapes were not being stored on the settlement data, which has made them impossible to import/load back into the generator. This bug has been fixed and the update script will attempt to fix these settlements while updating their version. However, this might result in different geography and some things might not be entirely consistant. Apologies for this, but that's unfortunately the danger of early development. We hope this doesn't cause too many problems.
New Features
- Settlements on a great lake will now show you the distance from the coast of that lake, along with its distance from the nearest marine (sea/ocean) coast
- Recent Events: Calamity - Settlements with abnormally low populations will now generate with a recent calamity. This is the first of our generated events; we've put it in early as a quick fix because we've been getting a lot of remarks and "bug" reports when a settlement has more residences than people. This is not impossible, so now you'll have a hint as to why it might have happened.
Tweaks and Improvements
- "Distance from the Coast" has been updated to "Distance from the Marine Coast" to clarify that this refers to the settlement's distance from the nearest sea/ocean, whether or not that coast is close enough to directly matter to the settlement. This will also differentiate it from the new "Distance from the Great Lake" measurement.
- Greatly Reduced the chance of a settlement generating with a "sparse" population density
- Added World Anvil to the icons in the footer
- Major code cleanup and improvements
Some dropdowns have been re-ordered:
- Settlements are now ordered by size
- Temperature Zones are ordered by temperature range
- Biomes are ordered by rainfall
- Water features have been ordered and grouped a bit more sensibly
UI Changes
- The footer should now appear at the bottom of the screen on desktop when no settlement has been generated.
- A styling error on Firefox that causes generated data to overflow its container has been "fixed". The area is now scrollable, which isn't what we wanted, but it won't behave otherwise.
- Changed "Download Raw Settlement JSON" to read "Download Importable Settlment Data" to hopefully clarify further which data can and cannot be later imported.
Data Changes
- Mangrove swamps are now marked as a coastal marine landscape to ensure they always generate on a sea or ocean
- The first of our generated events have been added: Calamities for settlements with very low population density
- River widths have been adjusted to better align with their apparent size
Bugfixes
- Improved the code for generating landscapes and landforms after a quick and dirty hotfix in 0.0.5.1
- Fixed biomes not caring whether the chosen landform should forbid them
- Getting the same error twice in a row when submitting a form should no longer make it impossible to try again
- Fixed a major bug where landscape and landform IDs would not be saved on a settlement, making them impossible to import or load
All the things! \o/ Thanks for all the hard work!
