When you've got an emergency, and you're stuck in outer space, who you gonna call?
No, not Ghostbusters, that'd be copyright infringement, and the author ain't got time to deal with that. No, you'd be calling the Station Disaster Hotline, or "the hotline", as most call it.
Known the galaxy over as the "rudest emergency services this side of Mars", the people who answer the calls are usually sleep-deprived, caffiene-high, grumpy assholes who are underpaid and wish they were anywhere but their cubicles. However, these grumpy assholes are the only people who can declare emergency evacuations from ships and stations, so everyone has to tolerate them anyway.
