Stellar Endeavour

The home of the Black Company, members of the Sanguine Horn

Built as a transport ship in 3801 AFT for Barshenko-Hyland Defense, the Stellar Endeavour was originally the Pathfinder and spent many years transporting armaments back and forth across the Cluster. Tragedy struck her in 3829 AFT when she stumbled into an asteroid crash and her hull failed, allowing several asteroids to plunge straight through her hull at multiple points. While only three crew members died when the air was suddenly expelled from the section of the starship they were in, the true damage came from the asteroids entering the hull. The ship was transporting a large compliment of missiles at the time and they detonated, tearing apart the cargo hold as well as the lower corridors. Thankfully the crew was able to seal off the area and the engines kept running, allowing them to limp their way to the nearest planet. Barshenko-Hyland deemed the ship too damaged to put in the effort to save it and the Pathfinder was decommissioned and sent off to a ship graveyard to eventually be used for parts.   Peregrine Wynn, the Head of the Horn, however, had a different fate for the ship. In 3833 AFT, she was looking for capable starships that could be purchased for the Sanguine Horn to add to their compliment, especially as she had a new company forming under her newest Captain, Jase Storre. As soon as she saw the Windjammer amongst the ships, she had to have it, no matter what damage it had to its hull integrity. Due to the damage that it had suffered, she did purchase the ship at far cheaper than it would have gone for had it been whole.   While the cost was high to repair and retrofit the Windjammer, having the vessel in their compliment was worth the cost. It took two years to complete her repairs and in 3835 AFT she entered service under the Sanguine Horn under her new name: Stellar Endeavour with Jase Storre as her Captain.

Propulsion

The Stellar Endeavour has two means of propulsion: its engine and its FTL drive. Due to its status as a Windjammer and therefore originally a transport vessel, the ship has a sunlight engine as well as several solar sails that can be retracted whenever the engine does not need charging. Like many other starships of its class, the Stellar Endeavour is equipped with a high-end FTL drive. Although this is a rarity for a mercenary company to have in their possession, the ship was never built for its current uses.

Weapons & Armament

Originally as a Windjammer, the Stellar Endeavour had very little in the way of weaponry. However, after being used as a mercenary craft for the past fifteen cycles, it has quite the compliment. Given that it is the largest starships capable of entering planetary orbit, the ship does have a compliment of ballistics scattered at key points across its hull. This allows it to harry any smaller ships that might try to get in close range to it and potentially damage the delicate sails or poke holes in her armor.   The Stellar Endeavour is also equipped with a compliment of laser turrets: fifty small, thirty medium, and ten heavy. For a Windjammer, this is practically bristling with lasers as they usually only have a compliment of twenty small, ten medium, and two heavy. She is also equipped with a small number of antiship missiles, although these are used as sparingly as possible given that they are sometimes hard for the company to purchase.

Hangars & docked vessels

The cargo hold of the Stellar Endeavour was originally intended to hold goods being transported around the Cluster but since the ship fell into the hands of the Sanguine Horn it has served another purpose. Despite the space being quite large, converting it into a bay for the company HAEM units has made it quite a cramped area. The HAEM bays themselves are arranged in two rows in the center of the cargo hold, placed back to back to avoid the pilots having to make too delicate of a turn when trying to get out of the hold quickly for a job. Catwalks run along the tops of these bays, capable of being retracted when they are not needed to access the massive machines of war.   Around the outer edge of the bay is all of the storage for HAEM parts and other equipment that are used to care for and maintain the massive machines. One section of the cargo hold is also used for all other storage on the ship, with the exception of medical and food supplies.

I love that despite that this article is about a single named vessel, the history of the ship extends far before its current version. The amount of modification in terms of weapons and cargo space is character in what seems to be breathing new purpose into its old form. I get a real Millennium Falcon vibe of the vessel be really good at things it's not meant to be.
