Long ago, an Elven Lord traversed into the Under Depths, and unleashed the ashen and brimstone ones. For his recklessness, he volunteered himself and his bloodline for the task of watching the Brimstone Gate, for eternity. For millennia after, this bloodline did so, taking the title of Damned Lord. With the aid of the Perpetuals, divine warriors supplemented by warriors given repentance in death, they held the demons at bay. Until at last, one turned away from this task.   To rectify this, the gods tasked the Elven warrior Ydrytte, of the same bloodline, with the task of defeating he who shirked his duty. She did so, but at the cost of her life. Before her death, she entrusted her newborn daughter to the care of her companions, a child who would not fit in either human or elfin life.   Sixteen years later, Idrid prepares for her coming of age ceremony in the cottage home she lives in with her Aunt, Adra. Yet, after another strange dream, she will be forced into the currents of history, trapped in a tangled web of schemes.
