Carsi

Carsi

Carsi is both a central character in the World's political landscape and a central character in the story. As the leader of the Hunter Elves , their Thu'ul (roughly translated to "pack leader" or "hunt master"), he guides his people to prosperity while deflecting threats both from without and within his realm.   He is one of the oldest living elves with all of the wisdom that comes with his age and is also one of the few elves that can speak directly to the goddess Nature. Nature will sometimes help guide his decisions for his people and sometimes makes requests in return. Some of Nature's requests will require giving Carsi limited information about the future.   As Thu'ul, he tries to do more for his people than he probably should. Every one of them knows him by name and he knows all of them. Most Hunter Elves tend to think of Carsi both as their leader, but also as like an uncle or other member of their family. The total population of Hunter Elves is only reaching more than a thousand now, but he takes it upon himself to help with tasks like crop coordination, diplomatic missions, facilitating adoption, and many other miscellaneous responsibilities. Some of these duties are necessarily performed by Carsi himself because of Nature's requests.   A notable request occurred when Nature guided Carsi to find the newborn Mas'aelyn and then personally guide her adoption into the right family and growth into adulthood.   If Carsi and Yumanea had an intro song for their side series about protecting the world, it would be Virtuous Tragedy by Aram Zero

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Carsi is tall (6'2"), but is by no means muscular. He often travels long distances between villages or across environments for Council. Since he does not excel in martial arts, he has decided not to maintain any strength more than he needs to.

Special abilities

Carsi's Gift hasn't ever been clearly defined to those who are not close to him. Most elves know that his Gift is the simple ability to make crystals glow and shine light at varying intensities. This was after his gift transformed when he was young at The Massacre of Elanil.   Prior to this, he was able to create a basketball-sized orb of light that only he could touch. It would follow him around if we wanted it to, could glow more brightly or dim, and even disappear until he needed it again. During the attack, he used it to kill a number of soldiers although most living elves don't know or remember the exact details of what happened or how his Gift transformed.   It is suspected by many Hunter Elves that Carsi knows some True Magic, but no one among them has been able to confirm this suspicion with the sole exception of Yumanea.   Additionally, it's worth noting that Carsi is one of the few elves that can speak with Nature.

Apparel & Accessories

Like most Hunter Elves, Carsi typically dresses in a combination of linen and furs. His particular tastes tend to be slightly more ceremonial than most, but definitely not enough to feel gaudy or self-important.   In terms of notable accessories, most of the time Carsi is seen with a simple necklace with a crystal pendant.   Usually while traveling, but sometimes when not, Carsi is known to keep a balanced walking staff with him. While elves are not susceptible to old age, and therefore he doesn't need it for balance or to help assist his joints, he always says how much it helps him climb the many hills and mountains.

Specialized Equipment

Carsi carries a lot more crystals than he keeps visible and his clothing is lined with many different pockets filled with herbs, knives, flint, and other tools he may need in his travels.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born a Hunter Elf before the first council, most of Carsi's life has been spent in a state of war.   As a young elf of ten years, he was the sole survivor of The Massacre at Elanil. Since then he rose to lead the Hunter Elves and focused foremost on the safety of his people, earning their respect and trust as his actions revealed their motivation of protection and defense.   At the time of the First Council, he was the second, after Erendriel, the Council's caller, to push for peace among all elves with a focus on their own society's population and growth.

Gender Identity

He/him

Sexuality

Demisexual, no preference in partner's gender identity

Education

Like all Hunter Elf children, especially in times of war, Carsi received extensive combat training upon reaching adulthood. While he didn't excel in any martial art in particular, he was quickly known for his strategic mind and his ability to outsmart his opponent.

Employment

For most of his life, Carsi has been the leader of the Hunter Elves, being informally elected among military leaders when the previous leader fell in battle. They recognized both his strategic abilities and his desire to help his people first and foremost, making him the perfect candidate. Carsi was only 32 at the time.   It is a position he has kept ever since and he has committed himself to the position until his death.   In this position, he acts both as the leader of internal affairs for Hunter Elves and diplomat to the rest of the elven societies.

Mental Trauma

Carsi has been the victim of a lot of childhood mental trauma surrounding the perpetual war he was born in to. He was the sole survivor of The Massacre at Elanil because he snapped and killed the remaining soldiers. He didn't speak for two years.

Intellectual Characteristics

Extremely smart and strategic

Morality & Philosophy

Like all Hunter Elves and elves of the forest in general, Carsi values life and autonomy above all else.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Protecting his people and helping them flourish.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Good at strategic games, but not so good at things that require physical labor or fast-paced play.

Likes & Dislikes

Hates fire. He's never liked it even as a young child. Watching his village burn only made this worse.

Virtues & Personality perks

Extremely patient and a very fast learner. Also surprisingly coordinated given his lack of other physical aptitude.

Vices & Personality flaws

Too forgiving and lenient.   As the Thu'ul, he often judges crimes and carries out their punishment. To date, he has only committed one person (a serial killer from another elven society) to death and chosen to exile three others.

Personality Quirks

Doesn't laugh often, but has a very hard time stopping once he gets going.

Hygiene

Carsi is extremely organized. Most of his personal dwellings keep books that he's written, records of events in his life that resemble something between a journal and an official record of leadership decisions. All of them are indexed and have a specific place on his many shelves. He can find any date or event in his books in about half an hour's time.   Personally, he is a very clean and neat person. While traveling, he is known to stop and bathe in most lakes and rivers, more often than other people consider necessary.

Social

Religious Views

Reveres Nature as most other elves do, but can actually speak with Her, unlike most other elves.   As a result, his idea of Nature is different than most elves, but he must play both sides so as not to reveal his connection to Her.

Social Aptitude

Extremely charismatic, probably one of the reasons he is such an effective leader.   Despite being Thu'ul for so long, his mannerisms haven't changed to become 'holier-than-thou' or require any extra etiquette from his people.

Hobbies & Pets

At one point, had a tiger as an Animal Companion, but hasn't had a companion in hundreds of years.

Speech

Doesn't swear often, but really means it when he does. To him, those are very important and specific words.

    The Massacre at Elanil
    Military action

One of the most brutal defeats of the wartimes, Carsi was the only known survivor.   The Mountain Elves to the East of Elanil came in early morning with a newly-discovered, long-burning fire gel. They used this to burn the entire village to the ground and acres of the surrounding forest. Such destructive ecological underpinnings in warfare was quite common at this time.
