Soul

There are three basic fundamental components of the universe The Two Storywriters made. The two most well known are matter and energy, and both can interact with each other. However, there is a third: Spirit, the nonphysical aspect of reality that affects both matter and energy, but cannot be touched by either.   It is is the human soul, made of this spirit, that contains the innate ability to know right and wrong and to choose between them, free will, in every individual; and it takes a visible form.

Manifestation

The soul manifests visibly in a form known as a core. This core appears as a sphere of light and is centered in the body just above the heart. The color of the core depends on the personality of the individual. A person with a violent personality may have a red core, whereas a person with a calm disposition will have a soft blue core.   The core contains the personality of a person and acts as an emotional center. The Chari culture focus heavily on maintaining balance within one's core.   Because the core contains the individuality of a person, the body without the core falls into a deep coma-like state of unconsciousness. It will stay an unconscious husk unless the core is returned or the body dies. The core can exist indefinitely outside of a body in this state.   Usually the only way to see cores is with a divine blessing or relic from the Storywriters. Likewise, the ability to remove cores is specific to The Two Storywriters. It is unknown whether or not cores can be put into different bodies than their original.

Puppets

Rarely, a core taken from its body with exceptional emotional strength and determination can reform into its own body. Such person, called a puppet, has a body composed completely of core energy strong enough to interact with physical matter. Puppets do not retain any memory from before becoming a puppet. Much like the color of their core, a puppet's form can vary depending on their personality but are primarily humanlike in appearance.   The extent of a puppet's ability is unknown, but they are able to feel and communicate emotions through physical touch alone. The only two puppets exist as part of the Abyssal Plane.
