Rakun

Rakun is a semi-sentient species of large reptile-like humanoids. known to build large simple structures their homes have been mistaken for that of a primitive giant's and very fond of bridges and climbing. these creatures are omnivorous but their diet subsists primarily on slightly rotted meat that they hang in bags from their bridges and cliffs until they are "ripe" for pickings. this is primarily done because they like the taste and they by no means need to do this for any other reason. which is why a starving Rakun have been known to eat prey (and adventurers) while it's still alive.
the digestive system of the Rakun is very potent absorbing bones, iron and carbon based metals completely before expulsion. this makes their bones extremely tough even been known to be used in parts for spaceships if other more common materials are not at hand. at the densest parts of their bones a very valuable mineral grows called L-39 more commonly known as Ledrinum.
this mineral makes whatever it's worked into lighter exactly how much depends on the quality of Ledrinum which is mostly determined by how healthy the Rakun in that the weaker and/or sicker the Rakun got the better the quality of Ledrinum. which helps the Rakun immensely in surviving and hunting while weak. though this has resulted in captured Rakun that near death being treated Very poorly to make the harvest of Ledrinum much more bountiful. Rakun are not the only species that grow this mineral in their bodies but it is one of the more well known.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Rakun are tall bipedal creatures with hands capable of manipulating objects (though they rarely do outside of construction) their clawed fingers are tipped almost like talons which are good for digging in and grabbing prey but doubles to help dig in to their surroundings to help them climb. they can grow to massive sizes of over 300 feet tall but rarely exceed 50 the exact reason for this is unknown but it is rumored that this species never grows old and keeps growing bigger with age but this is unconfirmed.

Genetics and Reproduction

their reproduction resembles that of mammalian creatures in that they give birth to live Rakun's though it is worth noting that the Rakun can survive on it's own from birth if they have to and while they are by no means as dangerous as an adult they can defend themselves.

Ecology and Habitats

this species come from an alpine planet and they work very well within this environment but they can adapt to most climats (both cold and warm) they are however terrible swimmers and while not completely helpless in water as they can get out of it if close enough to land or a climbable surface, they will drown fairly quickly if they can not do so.
they form groups of between 4 and 12 members and once a group has grown to 13 they split into 2 groups the largest of which stay in the same area while the smaller relocates to a new territory. this is done seemingly to keep from hunting extinct their food sources. but this is not certain since they do this regardless of if there are enormous abundances of food or if food is scarce.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

they have decent eyesight and hearing and have a pretty good sense of smell though they are perfectly comfortable with stenches that other creatures can't stand. they have basic Psionic powers only used for communication and in talented specimen it can be used to locate living creatures but nothing beyond that has been documented.
