Sabrenook

General Description

Sabrenook was once the site of a great shipbuilding yard many centuries ago but has been abandoned and left in a state of disrepair. Rumoured to be the place where Phantom Ships were designed and perfected over the years although no evidence for this has been found.

Terrain & Layout

Long walls of stone stretch out from the coastal walls into the ocean with some heavily rotten shipwrecks still attached or lodged against them. The workshops and workstations made from stone still exist although their contents were long ago ravaged of any worth. The natural currents of the islands seem to bring huge amounts of driftwood and junk into Sabrenook and the patches of sand revealed at low tide are often filled with debris from all over Aardragoon.   There was an old settlement further inland up on the cliffs that housed the workers but virtually nothing remains except an old well and prayer altar.

History & Legends

The shipyard was built in the year 1836 by Artego Corndell, a well-known and established shipbuilder of elven descent. She managed to expand her operations into an empire and by 2013 more than half of the vessels in the islands were built by her company, her ships having a reputation for being sturdy and durable. Even now two thousand years later around 10% of ships in the isles are Corndells, they are highly sought after, fetch a high price at auctions and require specialist teams to repair and restore them.   While the exact reason for the abandonment is still unclear, there have been numerous sightings of thick-haired, large humanoid creatures in the area over the years and many suspect that an attack by a large number of these creatures might have been the cause. Clusters of harpies seem to be attracted to the cliffs around Sabrenook in recent years, giving people another reason to avoid the place altogether.
