Tertiatus' First Invasion of Sevaria Military Conflict in Nareah | World Anvil

Tertiatus' First Invasion of Sevaria

In 714 Godsmarch, the warlord Tertiatus the Cruel initiated his First Invasion of Sevaria. Controlling land in the northern regions of the Aeortian Knightdoms, Tertiatus lead his forces into Sevaria's province of Escullend in an apparent attempt to expand his dominion. Although his attempt would end in failure, Tertiatus would not be dissuaded as he further launched a second and later third invasion of the region.   While there had previously been small skirmishes between Sevarian forces and those of the various Knightdoms, this was the first true attempt by any of the southern lords to make an attempt at Sevarian land. As the central Sevarian government had always believed the defenses of Escullend would be enough to hold off any actual incursion, it came as a surprise when word reach the Council of Lords that several towns had fallen and Sevarian forces were on the retreat from the southern fringes of the province.

The Conflict

Outcome

Damage to towns and farmlands  in southern Escullend that served to feed larger cities in the province turned out to be severe and the few survivors of the brutal incursion were reluctant to return and rebuild. The need to feed and rebuild the region would put stress on other provinces in what would turn out to be a year with poor harvests across the entire nation.

Aftermath

The outright invasion of Sevarian soil by one of the Knightdoms would forever change the Sevarian government's view of the Aeortian Knightdoms. While small skirmishes had occasionally occurred upon their mutual border, this was the first time there had been any true open conflict between the two forces. The Council of Lords moved to declare the entirety of the Knightdoms hostile to Sevarian interests and increased the military presence in Escullend to a level never before seen. Although this move was made to stabilize and protect the region, it would eventually cause further damage to the reason as future attempts at the region would see far more troops moving across the border.

Historical Significance

Legacy

Although Sevarian forces would eventually repel the armies of Tertiatus, the crazed devilblooded would not be content to sit back and accept his loss. Within another five years, he had launched a second invasion and, upon its failure, would attempt a third seven years after that.
