The First People

A race of extinct beings, believed to most closely resemble humans in appearance. They are the ancestors of all of the races that roam the material plane, and are said to have existed completely without magic.

Civilization and Culture

Beauty Ideals

Each race likes to believe The First People held the same beauty ideals that they do now, but in reality the information is lost in time.

Opinions on this vary from stone age to post enlightenment, as any remenants have long crumbled to dust.

History

There are many Nardish creation myths, all of which involve the creation of The First People. These beings lived on all the land, at a time when magic was thought to be little more than a fairytale. Stories vary greatly as to the level of tehnology they aquired, from basic mud huts to cities made of gold. The only other universal idea about The Free People is that four of them discovered magic, and in doing so awoke the arcana that had been dormant since the dawn of time. The resulting waves surged across the land, as a huge amount of magical power spilled into the material plane, and drove The Free People into secluded settelments as most of the land became too wild to live in. In these settlements, they learnt how to access the arcana in the same way as their predessesors (albeit with less catastrophic effects) and developed into the many races that now inhabit Nardish.

Common Myths and Legends

It is said that, at the beginning of time, there was only one dominant species in each plane, and the material plane was supposed to be home to The First People, in the same way that the fey inhabit the feywild, celestials the astral plane, etc. The great magical wave not only linked the material plane to the arcana more closely, but gave the otherplanar beings a way of accessing the world of The First People.

There are many other stories about The First People, included in creation myths. In Tariksan they are viewed as incredibly powerful and developed, with technologies that can't even be imagined. Usually they are seen as sinful or disrespectful, as they did not care for the world they lived in. [For refrence, imagine a late industrial age civilization, or early technology age (1900-1980).]
