The Daybreakers
Legend has it that the gods belonging to the Daybreaker tetrad were some of the first to explore past the coast of tariksan, developing their demigod-ship by facing the many challenges that lay at it's untamed heart. Unified by their desire to make a new land, they performed their rites in the wilderness, and became gods. Astora claims to be built on the site of this ascension. They are the most commonly worshipped tetrad in Tariksan, the closest the nation has to a national religion, although still do not have a majority.
The Tetrad consists of Tormo (a druid, representing dawn), Sambu (a paladin, representing day), Dansen (a rouge, representing sunset/dusk), and Tessia (a barbarian, representing night).
Mythology & Lore
It is said that five demigods, not four, stood in a circle on the summer solstace, the night which they intended to ascend. Bound by shared struggle, all five looked at each other across the intricate runes that criss-crossed the floor. Sambu declared that Hathraa, a wizard who championed death and change, should be the one to remain on nardish. Hathraa disagreed, and asked that Tessia should step down instead. All that is known about the events that followed is that Tormo refused to fight, and ended up greviously injured. Hathraa was defeated, and never seen again.
Although this conflict was a bloody way to start their godhood, it is accepted that this was the best outcome for all concerned, the Gods remained a complete pantheon and removed their most volitile member.
Hathraa's fate is still unknown.
Tenets of Faith
The betterment of civilization is paramount, and must be above the needs or wants of an individual.
All four Gods are needed to make Tariksan what it is.
Worship
The Daybreakers have many churches, those in small villages may have circular churches in which all four Gods are worshipped, but at seperate times of day. Larger towns have four seperate churches. The devout daybreakers usually follow one god specifically, but accept that all are important in their own way; for example Tessia represents nessicary evil to followers of the other gods, for without night the concept of day is meaningless.
Most citizens do not find the worship of the daybreakers to significantly influence their daily lives, and attempt to emulate the teachings of the god they are most drawn to. This is perhaps assisted by the fact that one of the unifying values of the daybreakers is civilization, so antisocial behaviour is only sanctioned in extreme circumstances.
