Samurella
A beautiful and prosperous country, governed by it's educated classes, Samurella was a parent nation to tariksan, and many of the first settlers there were humans from it's shores. Samurellan influence is found in the more sophisticated and elegant Tariksani buildings. At it's peak, Samurella contained multiple elven strongholds, and the majority human population absorbed a lot of the elvish culture, while maintaining it's humanish enterprising spirit.
Valuing peace and knowledge over military strength or power, Samurella was no match for the large scale invasion persued by the Yan'Katar, and lost all it's mainland land, surviving on a small number of islands north of Hengal's gap.
Territories
Samurella was such an old nation that the word has come to indicate the organisation and it's territories. The occupied part is now refered to as "Old Samurella" to all outside it's borders, and the current lands as "The Samurellan islands".
Military
In Samurella, fighting is taught more as an art than a tool of war. Many of it's inhabitants know very intricate sword skills, and in one on one combat can be hard to beat, or even land a hit on. However, they have little to no notion of teamwork or tactics, and were utterly butchered by the war-hardy Katarian soldiers.
Religion
Tetrads known to be particularly dwarven or orcish in their gods, practices, or followers, can find themselves banned if they come to the attention of officials. In general, religious freedom is encouraged, until it seems to counteract with the virtues of the Samurellan constitution.
It is said that there live four powerful demigods in Samurella, who seek to embody these virtues and ascend to godhood. If this does occur, it is likely that the resulting tetrad will quickly become a national religion.
Foreign Relations
Friendly to traders and travellers, Samurella is a safe place to find a night's rest, although not nessiccarily a home. Samurella has a very strong sense of national pride, and tends to shun any attempt at outside influence. Warlike nations see it as easy pickings, although until the expansion of the Yan'Katar none had tried anything major, as Samurella is too much of a good trade partner to lose, and too much of a friend to other nations to make it easy pickings.
Education
Schools are common, even in villages, and it is expected that every child has learnt how to read and write, as well as knowing simple numeracy and basic politics. These institutions are national, and teach up to age ten. After this age, Samurella is dotted with colleges and universities which have ranges of fees, most of which are approved by the government to be able to grant voting rights to any they deem worthy. This excludes the poorer classes from voting, as they usually don't have enough money to pay for the nessacary education.
