Ratking

A little known god, Ratking is part of a Tetrad of gods tied to the old Dwarvish city Larrinad, in the national land of Tariksan. Larrinad has been abandoned since shortly after the ascension of this tetrad due to a lack of knowledge about the ceremony causing some disasterous effects. Larrinad became deserted, and all other gods in her tetrad disappeared from the arcana. She stayed, slowly building up her city from the wastes. Larrinad currently contains a small village within it's huge walls.

Ratking is a god of survival, perseverance, resiliance, and rats. She is also a patron god of Larrinad, and will not search for followers anywhere else, hence her tiny following. She is neither good nor evil.

Holy Books & Codes

Erral Wall - An ancient wall in Larrinad with a painting of the four animals of the tetrad in a scene from a short parable of the four. Some guidance in dwarvish runes is written below it, as well as newer additions from the time of the city's collapse. The other side of the wall contains roughly etched or painted sketches and phrases that claim to communicate her word, written by travellers and the dwellers of the village that has grown from the ruins.

Tenets of Faith

Hard times forge strong people, do not be afraid of suffering because you can outlast it.

Do not think you are above anything, revel in wealth but remeber the times you spend in the cold, and don't let other's ideas about what is proper hinder your survival.

Never give up, especially on your own life and the lives of those you hold dear. Support your family in hard times.

Don't let the darkness around you taint your soul.

Keep Larrinad strong, always, for it is the safe haven when the nights draw in.

Personal history

In the last days of Larrinad, there were four incredibly powerful, knowledgable and influencial people. Ratking was the General of the defence and army, she was extremely cunning and often went on scouting missions to other towns alone, believing herself to be as strong as the whole army. She was seen as overconfident and and slighly abrasive, but her quick thinking and resourcefulness got the city out of trouble many a time. They said she was like a rat: sly, clever, resourceful, unyeilding, resiliant. And so in the stories of these great people the animals of the seasons began to be used instead: a rat, a chicken, a cow, and a goat.

As they drew towards the end of their long lives, the heros of Larrinad began to wonder who would care for their city when they were gone. It was proposed that if they became gods of the arcana they would always be able to guide and care for their people, and so the methods of ascension were searched for and cobbled together from old books and stories. On the day, the runes were drawn in the city sqare, and everyone who could gathered to watch. It is unknown what went wrong, but it lead to a wave of magical enegy that swept through the city.

Larrinad survived the enitial effects, but several people found themselves cursed, and discovered that their animals had aquired a level of sentience previously unseen. Some of the witnesses to the ritual were driven mad by fear of the runes in the centre of the city. Within a generation the whole city was deserted, despite the best efforts of Ratking and her fellows.

Ratking is the only God of Larrinad to remain in the Arcana, she perseveres and hopes that one day her city will grow strong and the long winter of her life will come to an end. She gathers followers by inducing her rats to protect travellers, and recently a village has been set up within the ruins of the old city.
