Languages and magic
Unlike in our world, where the languages we speak constantly evolve, most languages in Nardish (and it's associated wider world) are static. This is because they are inherently magical, their words tied to the arcana (both to describe it's existance and to invoke it's power) and so made permenant. It is generally accepted in areas of the world that understand the system of the planes, that the exotic ancient languages came into being with these planes, and so are as old as the world itself.
Newer languages are derived from some of these old ones, in most cases. They have much lower magical capabilities, and often have regional dialects that can be complex, but in general they are fixed. This is because each person is born with innate knowledge of a mother tongue, usually tied to their ancestry. This has been deduced as children who's race is from an influence from another plane often learn to speak that language without any outside input.

Casting
The language that each magical entity uses as the verbal component of thier casting varies, although is usually an ancient language that is linked to thier magical origins in some way. Sylvan is the most often taught by magical academies, and celestial is preferred by most churches. A lot of common-use cantrips and first sphere magic is cast in the languages of races.Common
Common (and it's dialects) is the only entirely non-magical langauge. Rather than being inherently known, common is learnt from the environment around you. As such, it is incomparable over large distances, and frequently changes, adapting words and structures from the languages of the peoples in a particular area. It is a messy language, with dialects that can vary region to region, but is a well-established and polite way of communicating. Most nations that have racial diversity have a language that is often referred to as "simple common", "standard common", or, for example "tariksani common", that is used for offical posters and communications.Ancient languages (planar):
