Katarinash
History
Before the formation of the Yan'Katar, Katarinash was under the control (very loosely) of a few ruling families, largely made up of a water genasi tribe, and any humans they took a fancy to. The powerful and cunning of this tribe encouraged civil war between draconic clans, as well as fueling cruelty and discontent. This, for a time, kept the population weak enough and busy enough to avoid them turning their hatred upon their ruling class. They also made a habit of drowning people who caused trouble in Katarinash's many lakes, one of which is still referred to as the lake of bones.
In 108PG (pre-gathering) several dragon clans were at peace for long enough to negotiate an alliance, and began to rise up against their rulers. Quite quickly, any loyalty towards these rulers dissapated, and the clans formed an alliance called the Yan'katar and took over Katarinash. The first few years of their rule were relatively peaceful, as rules were drawn out and the population hoped they'd backed the right side. Then, as the last part of the consitution was published, the new emperor declared that genasi were outlawed, and the clans were to be given rights above all others. The remaining water genasi and their loyal humans (who until that point had been living in relative comfort in their old palace under house arrest) were arrested and executed by fire on the spot.
What followed was nearly 80 years of rulerless chaos, as the population rioted and the Yan'Katar struggled to keep them under control. Forests were burned, by both sides, in an attempt to destroy the other. Murder was common. The only organised resistance of any scale was lead by the Xisana, a bronze clan, and the only other dragonborn clan in Katarinash. They eventually lost, choosing to flee the country into Samurella rather than stay and die. During this time, the practices of the Yan'Katar became crueller, and any members who believed in improving the country for the whole populous were forced out, including several of the founders.
During the great expansion wars, Katarinash found itself relatively unscathed, and most of the clanless ones moved out of the country to find new, less strict land. The area is still known as the cruelest and most loyal of the whole empire, with very few clanless ones, and does not recognise freemen.
