Humans
The most common race, both on Tariksan and throughout Nardish, humans are versitile in their abilities and interests. Driven by a desire for progress and exploration, humans are the least attached to tradition, and have not maintained the same enclosed communities that most races have. They are usually the first to attempt to settle a new land, and embrace the traditions and styles of other races, although do have their own, rather practical, style.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Humans in Tariksan are often given names that reflect the heritage of their township; these tend to be of a Germanic style. They have surnames that are usually inherited from their paternal parent, although some townships have a more matriachal approach, which is reflected in the naming tradition.
Gender Ideals
Both male and female humans are expected to be independant and hardy. More value is placed socially on women, as humans usually believe children are an important way to keep ther race stong and help it expand. This manifests itself in a whole spectrum of ways, from very matriachal to highly opressive/obectifying societies. Tariksan lies near the middle, with widespread equality and only slight regional variation.
Relationship Ideals
Humans believe in monagomy, and partnership for life. They also believe strongly that a couple should have at least two children, it is considered a failure to not bring humans into the world.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Common, and many Tariksani Humans speak an old local dialect called Tanna.
Common is a similar language to english, with a combination of different influences giving it a varied and slightly broken feel.
Tanna is akin to old english or anglo-saxon, with germanic roots. It is used in naming traditions.
History
The ancestors of humans did not build such impressive strongholds as some races, but built thick-walled towns in which they could attempt to continue living their lives. They would often risk their lives to venture into the wilderness and build more settlements, or collect resourses, so developed their adventurous spirit. The density of human population is centred around the tundra and temprate regions, and less around deserts and scorching plains, or conversly, in arctic or mountainous areas.
Their adaptablility, will to survive, and desire to expand has, in the past, caused them to be veiwed in a rather hostile way by other races, but the sheer number of them means large scale opression is rare. Any old walled towns from the post-wave age have been torn down years ago and replaced with larger, more free, cities.
