Genasi

The ancestors of the ancient genasi were mortal setllements who fell under the influence of a powerful elemental being. Their children were imbued with the spirit of that element, which still shapes the motivations and lives of genasi in the modern world. With distinct features, genasi rarely go unnoticed, and often gather with their own kind. Often genasi are found near where they feel the influence of their element the most closely: fire on deserts and hot grasslands, water in coastal areas or swamps, earth in deep forests or steep valleys, air in mountains or near cliffs.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Genasi born among other races use that style of name, but often like to change or add to it to reflect their elemental side. Larger groups will often have a group name, that invokes their element, that members add to the end of their names.

Major Organizations

The south of Davmire contained a significant number of fire genasi tribes, who lived almost independantly from the rest of the structure within davmire. Many fled during the invasion, those who stayed were eventually exectuted, as the Yan'Katar resent the close connection genasi have with the elements that they like to believe they own.

Beauty Ideals

While usually similar to the beauty ideals of their parent race, genasi favor those who's elemental heritage is the most obvious.

Gender Ideals

Lots of genasi have an element of nonbinary or agenderness, as their elemental parents did not understand the concept, so often it is a little blurry. Those who learn the importance placed on it by most of nardish usually have no problem with accepting a binary identity (some even embrace it), but they revolt at the idea that their gender or sex might make them different.

Relationship Ideals

Genasi attitudes towards relationships vary, but they are almost always monogamous and place high value on love and mutual respect. With lots of couples unable to have children, it is common for friends to help care for each other's children, and in some cases this leads to a system where weaned babies are the responsibility of the whole group.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Common, primordial, and often the language of their parent if that parent wasn't genasi. Primordial is very sharp, harsh, and gutteral; it is an influence to the harsher of the dwarvish family of languages. There are four distinct dialects, as each group attempts to shape their speech to fit with their element: water primordial is much smoother than most, air primordial often has a light, breezy feel, etc.

History

The post-wave chaos spilt powerful elementals onto the material plane, and eventually found the gatherings and strongholds that the first people had built for themselves, and saw the seperate races beginning to develop. Those who weren't overcome with a desire to raze these flimsy settlements to the ground saw an excellent oppertunity to build a fantastic legacy. They spun their influence into the souls of the people there, and the children became genasi.

In the modern era, genasi can be born as the child of a mortal and genie, from exposure to pure elemental energy, or from a genasi ancestor whose influence has lain dormant for generations. Often the genasi born this way seek their elemental kin rather than staying at home, and others are merely drawn to wander by the sense they don't belong.

There are several different types of genasi, depending on their parentage. The tall (elvish/human ancestors), the tough (dwarvish/orc/ect.), and the small (gnome/halfling/goblin). SIze and build is essentially the only distinction between these, very little race heritage remains. By far the most common are the tall, who are usually just refered to as 'genasi', while the others have their prefixes attached.
