Kappa Species in Naishou Province | World Anvil

Kappa

Originally from Sakkaku, the Spirit Realm of Mischief, Kappa can be found in Rokugan's waterways. They aren't evil, but their tricks can be dangerous or outright lethal.   The indentation on top of their head contains their water of life. If it spilled or drained the Kappa becomes incredibly weak and vulnerable. Only a full day spent underwater can restore a drained Kappa.   Despite their reputation throughout the rest of Rokugan, in Naishou Province, Kappa are generally seen as benign. The province also has a legend about a Kappa king who lives in a cave at the foot of the Taru Mountains on the shore of Tsunegawa Lake. The king is said to be especially large and especially old, too large and old to move easily, so that he rarely takes to the lake's waters. Instead, the other Kappa bring him food. The Kappa king is said to have great knowledge of medicine and many people have searched for him when faced with a terrible or fatal illness. No one has ever claimed to have found him.
