Evokiya's Mountain

The tale of Evokiya's Mountain is a myth regarding the volcano known as Syn Evokiyad. It is a widely known tale worldwide, but it holds its most relevance in the region of Mirran. It is unknown when exactly the tale originated, but it is generally accepted that it existed before the First Dawn.

Summary

The tale states that when the Immortals were forming Naikwan thousands of years ago, the planet's core cracked because it could not handle the rapid rate at which the surface was being changed. One Immortal known as Evokiya continued to manipulate the surface even after the other Immortals agreed to stop. As punishment for cracking the core even further, the Immortals threw Evokiya into the volcano that had formed as a result of her actions. This volcano went on to be called Syn Evokiyad, which translates to 'Evokiya's Mountain' in ancient Solori. As Immortals cannot die, only Evokiya's flesh was destroyed, and she herself was thrown back into the Void, where she remains.

Historical Basis

It is likely that the myth originated as a way to explain Naikwan's volcanic activity and geothermal features, including the periodic eruptions of Syn Evokiyad.

Cultural Reception

Most cultures interpret the tale to be about obeying authority figures while others take it to mean that actions have consequences. The most radical interpretation exists among the Serusian people. They often use it to justify discriminating against women, as they believe the tale cautions that if women do not adhere to the authority of men, they will ruin the world just as Evokiya did. Most scholars reject this interpretation.
