Vosalisk Species in Naetica | World Anvil

Vosalisk

A crystalline fauna that lives inside of volcanos

Basic Information

Anatomy

A dense, heat resistant crystalline exoskeleton. This creature has 8 limbs comming out of the side of the creatures long body, 6 of which end in four fingered pseudohands that help it to grip the walls while the other two have pincer made for grabbing their food. It's long, powerful tail allows it to swim through the thick magma it calls home.

Genetics and Reproduction

Vosalisks reproduce by laying eggs. The eggs are laid at the bottom of a sill full of magma

Growth Rate & Stages

Egg stage for 3 months where they gestate in magma Hatchlings break free of their eggs and instinctively swim in their (mother or father's) mouth where continue to grow in a special pouch for around one year. Vosallisk hatchlings are 3 inches long and grow to 6 inches in this pouch. After Juevenile vosallisks are around 6 inches long their exoskeleton has grown strong enough to resist the heat of the magma outside of the parental pouch and they begin to explore the sections of the volcano near the magma. At this stage they are considered adolescents and will grow approximately 1 foot per year. Thier adolescent stage lasts for 13 years. Most vosalisks are between 12 and 15 feet in length upon entering adulthood. During adulthood, the growth rate of a vosallisk deminishes to 6 inches per year and they enter the mating cycle for the first time.

Ecology and Habitats

The vosalisk makes it habitat inside of volcanos, more often near the magma, though adult vosalisks do travel further from the magma to hunt.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Vosalisks do not have a sense of sight, smell, or hearing. Their sense of touch is limited to pressure sensing, which is at an average level and is necessary for climbing. Vosalisks do, however, have the ability to see through magical means. As creatures move in the surrounding area a vosallisk is capable of sensing that movement by changes in arcano-pressure in the atmosphere.
