A land destroyed by war, cities moved onto huge mechanical wheels roaming the plains in a Darwinian fight for survival.   Years ago the Sixty Minute War caused massive geological upheaval, a war of magic and technology that threatened extinction and left very little to those who survived. To escape the earthquakes, volcanoes, and other instabilities caused, a legend known only as Quercus installed huge engines and wheels on Bayreuth, enabling it to dismantle other cities for resources. The technology rapidly spread, and evolved into what is known as "Municipal Darwinism". Although the planet has since become stable, Municipal Darwinism has spread to most of the world and considered the superior way to exist. Although most of the world is dominated by Traction Cities, some of the world heald by the Anti-Traction League, which seeks to keep cities from moving and thus stop the intense consumption of the planet's remaining resources.   Much of the technological and magical knowledge was lost during the war, because magical progress has almost completely halted, ancient artifacts are highly prized and recovered by scavengers and archaeologists.
