Ahiogris Mountains

Geography

A tall mountain range at a high latitude. From it's most north peak, the range travels southwest for several miles before making a slight turn northwest. Some of the mountain peaks have snow or ice near the top, but there is otherwise very little water in and a few miles around the mountain range. Many of the mountains are very steep and jagged. There are some natural caves tucked away at various points.  There are two passes through the mountains, and both are very treacherous.

Ecosystem

The mountains are mostly barren. There is very little precipitation, and it is usually snow or sleet. A few particularly hearty plants and animals live in these mountains. Not a lot is known about them, because most other creatures do their best to avoid traveling through the mountains altogether.

Ecosystem Cycles

The animals that live in the mountains are most active during the rainy season. There are a few months that are usually wetter for the surrounding region, and it increases the small amount of precipitation in the mountains. This is when the most water is available, so the plants grow in a quick burst, and the animals reproduce during this season. It is also warmer during the rainy season, and some of the snow at lower altitudes melts. When the rainy season ends, the precipitation tapers off as the dry season approaches. Many of the animals migrate into the surrounding valleys or prepare to hibernate in the caves during this time. During the dry season, many of the plants wither, and the animals are hibernating or living elsewhere. They will return with the rains.

Natural Resources

There are many minerals in the mountains and the caves, but they are very difficult to obtain. Some of the plants are endemic to this region and have medicinal properties. They are particularly valuable because it is so difficult to travel the mountain range to find and collect these plants.
