The Shield
The Shield is part of The Cult of Ares, the function as bodyguards and security for The feather. They, as any other enter the cult as part of The Body, where they show promise and courage. After they have been chosen by a retired shield, they are then trained one on one until their mentor is satisfied. They have to show that they do not fear death and are completely devoted to the cult. Often they are sent on minor missions to test their loyalty.
Composition
Manpower
The exact number of Shields is unknown, though it can be estimated that for every Feather there are five Shields on average to protect them. Some very high ranking Feathers or Feathers in high profile positions are guarded by more, those of lower profile often only have one Shield to guard them.
Weaponry
Each shield is equipped with a black shield bearing a red A on the front, their weapon of choice and several daggers. They are also trained to fight in heavy leather armour.
Training
The training these soldiers undergo is supposed to be even harder than that of the Spartan soldiers, training in different terrains - from the top of the mountain to the sea - as well as with any weapon imaginable and unimaginable. A lot of trainees do not survive training, but if they do they are hard to kill and their charge even harder.

Members are recruited from The Body if they show good fighting skills and bravery at a young age.
