    Personal history

Veren was born during the Epoch of Peril, in the last days of the time of upheaval. He was part of a small group sequestered in the Brokeback Mountains and rarely ever saw the sun for the first part of his life. It wasn't until their community was destroyed by attacking demons and monsters forcing Veren to flee with only two other young children that he began to spend time above ground. He and the other two children began to truly witness the horrors of the Epoch as they struggled to survive in a hostile environment.   The young teen began to pick up other orphaned children, taking them under his wing and creating a relatively safe place for them to live. Unfortunately, about the time Veren turned twenty, their home was betrayed, and everyone in it was slaughtered violently. Veren was the only survivor, and by all rights should have been dead. He survived by sheer force of will alone and became a ghost in the shadows, making it his business to destroy evil in the service of the Lord of Death. From that day, he counted himself as dead and thus had no fear of death.   His exploits began to create a legend of an Avenging Angel among the few human survivors and some others began to fight back as well. Most of them were destroyed, but some were able to find their way to Veren's hideout, and though he resisted they began to create their own organization, named after their de facto leader, "The Avenging Angels." They began to organize a resistance against evil, and were even able to uncover the secret to finally closing the gateway to the void.   After a ten year campaign against the forces of evil, the Angels finally made their way to the gateway and, after a fierce battle lasting several days, they were able to close it, bringing an end to the Epoch of Peril. Veren was the last member of his squad still alive, holding the gateway against the incursion of more demons singlehandedly while the last remaining Angels finished the ritual. Witnesses of his last moments recorded accounts of a possessed madman, eyes glowing with a cold light, seemingly shrugging off mortal wounds like they were nothing. His last words were orders to his allies during the battle, for as soon as the portal closed his body fell as if the only thing holding it up had been severed.   The survivors believed that Veren was either possessed by a sylvar of Feantur, the god of death, or that he was kept alive by Feantur's decree only until his job was done. In any case, it became publicly believed that Veren, alone of all mortals, was granted a place of honor among Feantur's sylvar, and that his spirit is called to roam the earth in search of the worst evils, bringing vengeance in his wake. Statues of the Avenging Angel are commonplace in major cities and shrines to the god of death, and some call upon him to bring vengeance upon their enemies. To this day, some Paladins will take up the mantle of the Avenging Angels, following his path.
