The Wandering Phoenix: Purveyor of Trinkets and Sundry

The Wandering Phoenix! Now, there's a sight I haven't seen in right ages. A small, seemingly innocuous wagon, with fading paint and rickety wheels, but if you happen to step inside the back, my lad, you will be met with an amazing sight! Shelves and barrels and boxes and crates of wondrous, and often times magical, items! Sounds cramped, doesn't it? Who would want to dig around in there? But there's the magic of the Phoenix, kids, it's much grander and bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside. There are shelves and shelves of items, yet it never seems cramped or crowded, no matter how many people are in there. How the Keeper does it, I do not know. But it is quite a sight. Be sure to save a few pennies for when the Phoenix next comes through town, lads, or it will be the biggest regret of your young life!
  • Anders Stonesharp, small town blacksmith
  • The Wandering Phoenix is one of the strangest, and most welcome, sights found on Flindreck, from the smallest hamlet to the largest capital city. It is an unassuming cart with a closed in back section, painted long ago with reds and golds that have now faded away. Its wheels are rickety, and it is pulled by a tired old grey horse who plods slowly along the highways and byways of the world, getting where it wants to go in a slow, but steady manner. The driver of this cart appears just as shabby as his vehicle, with his robes and cloak in patches and rags, and his beard long, grey, and unkempt. But he smiles at children wherever he goes, and he has an infectious laugh. He is known only as the Shopkeeper, and his ultimate origin is unknown. When the Phoenix pulls into town, the Keeper sets up shop in the town square, tethering his horse nearby, pulling down the steps in the back, and awaiting customers. He never has to wait long, for he has been traveling the continent for years, and everyone recognizes his cart. When a prospective customer approaches the cart, he bids them enter with a grand, sweeping gesture. If one accepts his invitation and climbs into the back, they are met with an amazing sight. The paint in here is bright and shiny, as new as the day it was put down, and there is a soft, red velvet rug running down the center of the cart. The lamps are bright and flicker with a magical light, illuminating a space that is much bigger inside than it first appeared on the outside. The real Wandering Phoenix is a well stocked magical shop, bearing wonderful items from all across the continent. The prices are often expensive for more magical items, but there are plenty of more mundane, but still magical in a sense, items to be found for perfectly reasonable prices. Weapons, fine clothing, tools, pots, and toys share the wall with rugs, fabrics, candies, and exotic pets. Even just browsing the shelves and leaving without buying a single thing is sure to bring a smile to the face of all who enter. The Keeper never lets young children go empty handed, and will often give a much lower price to a child who truly desires an item, or even give it to them for free in certain cases. After a few days, the Keeper will pack up shop, quietly leaving at the same slow and steady pace he came into town with, leaving the town looking forward to the day the mysterious shop returns.
